To be honest, i'm perfectly fine with that. Since the acquisition of Skype by Microsoft, they've had 2 separate communication applications running/developing concurrently. By discontinuing one of them, they can focus more attention on the other. I've got my Skype integrated with both Facebook contacts, and MSN contacts. I haven't had WLM installed for well over a year now.

To any new Skype users migrating from WLM: Upon launching Skype, you are offered the ability to login using your WLM credentials, and it will store all of your contacts. Due to the nature of Skype, you end up gaining new functionality, so long as your contacts are also running Skype (such as voice chat).

the issue is it wants me to use my wlm account to log into skype now if I do this... I don't want that.

This won't really affect me too much as I moved on to Facebook as an instant messenger and use skype for Video Calls and when my phone breaks...

Still, I don't really want to see the rise of Windows Live Skype either...

From a business perspective it makes sense, why operate two similar programs by one company? Also it's likely that Microsoft will migrate its WLM staff to Skype so your getting expert focus on a product without having both of them go slow on development. I think this is a good thing for all concerned as well as some people use WLM, some use Skype. Join them both together and then everyone is connected, without having two programs for different people.

I'm all for it.

I'm fine with it but I hate there account merging system... I don't want my WLM Account taking over my skype account.

Except, after WLM goes dead, there really won't be a "Skype account" and a "WLM account". There will be ONE account. To alleviate the issues with the eventual forced merger, they offer people the OPTION to merge now, or log in using your WLM credentials.

i used to always use WLM, but i dont really log in much anymore these days...  i do have a skype account but i used it like twice in the last several months...
it will be a pain in the ass to have to get used to a whole new system but i guess we just gotta get used to it...
i do find this news annoying tho...  i guess ill just have to use skype from now on...

Well I just merged my accounts... was less painful than I thought it would be.... no options were screwed with.

And yeah thanks to things I'm involved with now... I tend to use skype more often.

All your contacts should be shown on Skype. At the bottom of the message window, it should say either "via Skype" or "via Messenger" or "via Facebook" etc.

Plus, you have the ability to choose which contact list to view such as Skype, Facebook or Messenger (as well as Hide offline contacts).

EDIT: Attached an image illustrating my Facebook contact list, while viewing a Skype contact window :)

If you have Skype on "auto login", you need to first log off. Then you should see the merge option :P

I don't really like this. For me, MSN is a social thing, Skype is (mostly) a business thing.

My WLM went bye bye already thanks to the miserable recovery feature that failed THREE times and royally pissed me off. :bitch: I will never again trust M1cr0$hits products. NEver again microsoft, other than Win7.. and that one probably won't be legit if I have anything to say. I refuse to fund their shitty services any longer. I lost over a decade old account and all of my contacts which I no longer remember.. All because of "suspicious activity".. for pete's sake I used that account only for WLM! :bitch:
