yeah I'll get all the kinks straigtened out on the mesh. As it is right now the mid-point of the bussards is exactly even with the rear leading edge of the saucer. And if you look at the lineage of the Enterprise from A-D the nacelles get progressively lower with each ship. We'll see what happens with the modelling. I can never really tell what anything I make will look like until its close to being done anyhow.  :D

I understand completely, if you would like, I could clean up the mesh I have and give it to you, it could give you a jumpstart on the model.

Dude that would be awesome! It would probably take me a while to do it on my own as I'm a bit of a perfectionist and I'd like to make something that you guys could all be proud of.

Did some tinkering with the mesh and got the saucer looking better. The nacelles I think could be changed to something more like what I have below. Kind of a cross between the sov and nova or something like that. I'll do some more tinkering see if I can get something cool worked up....

Edit: Supposed to be an attachment below but it didn't work.... :hithead:

I was about to say the same thing.

Personally, I'm not a fan of long necks nor am I of no necks (love the Sovereigns of the world but...). I would make the neck about half to 3/4 as tall as it is now, and leave the pylon length alone. See what that buys you in terms of nacelle visibility from the front.

Ok guys here's my progress so far. Like I said I changed up the saucer a little and beveled the leading edge. I also removed the impulse pods on the aft section of the saucer as they looked a little too "excelsior" for my tastes. I also did a litttle bit of scaling here and there to balance out the model. I'm pretty happy with it so far and the only thing I might change would be the nacelles to something of my own design which I have yet to build in 3D. But here's some pics for ya:

a request - when the ship gets into the modeling phase, it would prolly be best to begin a new thread in BC Modding forum, since the original topic of this thread has been addressed...

thx :)

Your using google sketchup aren't you. I recognize that default material anywhere. those blueish sections are gonna be future mesh errors. you simply need to select them, right click, and choose reverse faces in order to clear those up.

Not a problem, ;) when it comes to this program, I know it by heart, just ask me anytime if you need tips for better looking models. On a side-note, select the whole moddel, ctrl-a, right click on the model, select soften smooth edges, and set any where from 20.5 to 26.7, depending on how you want it to look.

Yeah I was fooling around with that but doesn't that get rid of the triangles needed for the ship to work properly in BC?

Nope, smoothing just changes the ships appearance, not the actual poly count
