It's Time to Kill Star Trek
« on: July 24, 2025, 12:22:48 AM »
Here's a nice, soft and peaceful corner of the internet that remains. I want to unload a thought.

It looks more and more like the owners, or at least soon to be owners, of Star Trek have bent the knee, maybe even sworn their sword.

Star Trek is dear to me. It forms a foundation basis of my earliest memories with my Dad and long trips watching taped episodes on a portable TV/VCR in the van. As a kid, Star Trek honestly indoctrinated me to try to be honorable like Worf, charming like Riker, suave like Kirk, gritty like Sisko, thoughtful like Picard, and to believe that the future would be bright and people would live in peace together. I'm a lot older now, and more cynical, but like I said, Star Trek indoctrinated me. I still believe it can be the future.

But to keep Star Trek...Star Trek, it has to be killed. Star Trek that kowtows to fascists isn't Star Trek anymore, so technically it's already dead. I love SNW and loved Lower Decks and Picard, and even watched all of Discovery even as it worked its hardest, every single episode, to make me want to quit. I had Paramount+, I've cancelled it. I was really looking forward to Season 3 of SNW, and really enjoy the first episode, but I can't enjoy the rest of them.

I'm just looking to vent. Fascism disappears fun only somewhat slower than it disappears people.

Hope any of you old timers that come across this are doing well.

Hey DJ,
I only watched Discovery up to Season 3, Picard Season 1, and Strange New Worlds Season 1. I just... couldn't continue.
All I want to say is: I completely understand.

Trek definitely isn't what it used to be.

I know Trek always pushed some boundaries on societal norms and taboos, but since Discovery, it just rams it down the viewer's throat.  I forced myself to watch Discovery, to see how the overall story would progress, much to my disappointment.

Picard, season 1 was ok, season 2 was somewhat of a letdown, season 3, I liked season 3.

SNW, not sure what o make of it.  At best, it just scratches an itch, but doesn't really feel like Trek.

Not sure if Trek needs to die, but at the very least it needs a massive slap upside the back of the head with a warp nacelle.

Hope you don't mind my opinion.
