Leonidas Class USS Raptor -- Now Available @ BCFiles
« on: September 19, 2007, 09:21:35 PM »
When i started talking about the Delta series of ships that I'd be working on over the summer, I hinted that I might do a sort of Nebula style ship to go along with the Century Class and its friends.

Well, I had some inspiration and have been working on this here and there for the last few days.  Though it's not in the pix, the ship will carry a pod, but I'll do two models... one with and one without.

I also decided to reuse the nacelles from the Vivace Class.  Not only did they seem to fit well with the ship's design, it saved me a bunch of time. :D  Nacelles are always an area I have little creativity, so when I do some decent ones, I may as well get some mileage out of them.  Besides, lots of Starfleet ships reuse nacelles too, so i feel vindicated. lol.

Anyways, I've still a bunch of detail I want to model on to the ship, but it's pretty well fleshed out as you see it.

edit: btw Mark, I thought I'd try out the board's new PNG support.  it looks good.

It looks like something I can't put my finger on.

I love the way the saucer echoes the nebula class.

But the design REALLY reminds me of something, which is not to say I don't like it, it kicks ass!

There's a bit of runabout influence on the top of the engineering hull, too. Very nice ;)

Whoa! DJ, I think that's my favorite design of yours yet! Please tell me that's supposed to be a next gen replacement for the Akira class.

That ship looks like she has fangs, and can dance when she bites.

I'll be keeping real close tabs on this baby. I might even reinstall BC just to see it fly.

Canon is what people argue exists on ships that don't exist.

It looks a whole lot like Queball's unfinished Repulse class.  However there is an appriciable amount of differences in the two designs.  Such as the deflector being in the standard configuration here, instead of being above the saucer on the Repulse, among others.  An inspiration possibly?

Looks like a hybrid of a Galaxy, Akira and a Vivace class. Very cool indeed.
Can't wait for 2014 to start.

if that's the grandson of the Akira, I'd keep its japanese-themed name.
hmmm, Yamato class?

I can see how this could evolve to the Enterprise-J.  That really looks cool!

Whoa.. I think I designed that ship about 5 years ago.  Well, sort of.  Very similar, but I had the warp pylons mounted higher, around a large weapons pod.  I'd always planned on calling it the Katana class, I think that would work nicely (unless someone's used it.. I've been kinda out of the loop).

Edit: Found one of my old drawings, k, so it's not that similar.  I later redid the nacelles, and swept them back.  I like your layout better though, much cleaner design.

You know, the similarities are fairly amazing. The Katana looks as though it could be a follow-on to the Akira, later to be replaced by the "?-class" WIP-ship.

Another pretty ship you have there DJ :D  I'm sure it's going to look just as (if not more) beautiful as the rest of your fleet!

I can not get enough of your ships DJ...sometimes I wish that we could clone you and have you do all the canon ships that are already in BC...maybe we could make androids instead...they don't need sleep :)

Looking very nice so far and I can't wait to put her in my fleet.

Superb ship DJ, an excellent start!!. You were right about those Nacelles, they fit in with this design nicely. Resembles an Akira with the saucer and secondary hull, but I can also see echoes of the Nebula and NX Class ships in this design!!.

Also what type of ship will this be, exploratory, surveyor, cruiser, dreadnought etc.

So... the Delta Series of starships grows yet again, you have our thanks DJ!!.

WOW!!! This is indeed a VERY nice design. I think I love it even more that your Century Class. The one without the pod could indeed be a very good replacement for the Akira Class.

Keep up the good work DJ
