OK, here's what I've got so far.  There will be a lot more details modeled on by the time it's done.  Right now I'm just trying to flesh out a shape.  As you can see, I'm trying to design a ship that would be a continuation of the D-7 series, hence why I'm calling it the D-8.  Unless that name has been taken; if it has, could someone let me know.

The ship will be from the time of the Enterprise-F, circa 2395-2400, so I want to have it be very recognizable as Klingon, but with perhaps some new twist.  Any ideas?  I'm posting this fairly early in the construction so that hopefully some of you will have a good idea for it.

BTW, for anyone who is wondering...  I haven't forgotten about any of my other projects, they're just on hold for now... I'll get back to them.  It's just that I'm first and foremost a modeler.  Texturing is a chore for me.

Anyhow, I'm open to all suggestions on this one; I've never made a Klingon ship before. (Save for the D-7 you see in the pix)

nacelles flipped upwards as in the Negh'var
or with small pylons like in the Norexan, but bent forwards, as in attack position.

BOP instinct, but warship weapon configuration (I can give you a heads up in that when the time comes.)

looks great so far :),

hm, maybe nacelles similar to the Vorcha class and then made them orthogonal
to the pylons, so that they are a bit diagonal.

only what spontaneausly dip on my mind, but I'm not have a clue of klingon ships :)

DJ, i think you`re streamlining too much the design to fit the D series evolution.
I think it looks more like a cross between the raptor and the brel, than a D class, not that it's a bad thing actually.
If you want it to ressemble the D series, i would definitelly recomend a thinner neck and a similar nacelle configuration.

If you want to move into a new direction (hope so), you should try adding composite nacelles fitted along the body like the neghvar has.
Also you can try non-body fitting pods, it seems to be a klingon identity.

it looks awesome, but i agree with making the neck thinner, maybe make the ship alittle more agressive, and yer maybe neghvar style nacelles, but a abit more intergrated, but it looks reli good so far, as expected from a genius :D

Okay, I've made the neck about 30% narrower.  I didn't want it to be too narrow, because as we all know, one well placed quantum torpedo and the ship will be decapitated.

I've also done up the rough outline for the rear dorsal pod.  I tried to stick with something familiar to the modern triangular designs of the Vor'cha and Neg'Var, but with a bit of futuristic license.  What do you guys think?

I'm going to model a lot of weapons on to this ship.  It will be armed to the teeth.  Basically, the Enterprise F will need to rely on speed and maneuverability to beat it.  Lots of weapons, lots of armor, lots of shields.

I like it.

If it use pending nacelles, it would surely look like an D series EVO.

However, i`m itching to see you come up with a more different nacelles append.

I really like it..... but I agree with legacy if it is to be a D type ship it should have the same nacelle configuration.

I would love to see a ship that looks simulair to a Vorcha or Negh'var, But I hope you will come with something new :)

For a first attempt on a Klingon Ship it's a darn good start DJ. I can your own design influences in the ship, you can clearly tell that it's one of your designs lol.

I think that maybe the fwd torpedo tube could be a little bigger and a bit more pronounced but other than that it's really good.

keep that large nose cannon (givit it that indent like the agt in the nose but less pronounced)

Also, I don't think neghvars had the round emitters like the D7 which you are using, they'd be obsolete, they'd be more like square pods. How large is this ship?
I just realised something. I've released over 300 fully modded ships for bridge commander. Bow to your master :D

I love it's looks. It really feels like a ship which would have flown roughly in the ambassador-class era. A twist you say? I can't think of much, maybe reverse the "ball" under the cockpit to be above the cockpit, adding some sort of large mounted weapon or sensor array under the cockpit instead. Another twist could be a very original nacelle design.

D8? I believe it excisted as a beefed up D7 design to function as a more heavy cruiser of sorts, sometimes tripple nacelled.

Looking good.

I feel compelled to point out that the Bird Of Prey that destroyed the Enterprise D was a "Class D-12 Bird Of Prey" that had been retired 20 years before due to "defective plasma coils" in their "cloaking device". It would be safe to assume that the D-series was at least at "13" by "now".

"Quotation marks"

ahem...

The design looks a little fluid for a klingon at this stage, but if, as you say, it's going to bristle with weaponry, then perhaps that will provide the desired chunkiness. ;)

Keep up the great work!

I just noticed something on DJs renders the very top sorta "triangle" shape on the aft dorsal side it looks a hell lot like a huge klingon shuttle with its own nacelles docked at the top via 2 rectangular protrusions sticking up from the D8 herself. Is it my imagination or have i got smacked by one 2 many of a friends rubber chickens
