Also, pic of a ST09 trading card showing the Enterprise at warp...pretty cool looking warp effect if you ask me.

And also in the trailer, when the Enterprise enters warp, even though we only see it for a few seconds, its long enough to see the JJPrise in warp. Either way, I can't imagine this Enterprise being at TNG warp.

And the viewscreen still has that weird warpie effect before arriving at Vulcan, previous Treks just showed the stars un-streaking.  Meh.  Warp drive doesn't technically move the ship at FTL speeds.  It warps the space around the ship, drops it into subspace, and essentially reduces the travel time for the ship.  Warp drive is almost literally the engine that "moves the universe around the ship".  That said, I really like the new effect and I hope it has an awesome sound effect to go with it. ;)

Also, the possibility has occured to me that the next trailer might have one thing the others don't.  The actual movie score.  I hope so.  I loved how Giacchiano scored the Speed Racer movie, keeping the slightly goofy feel of the original but pumping it up, and I hope he does something similar for Star Trek.  He has said that he will use Alexander Courage's original theme, so that makes me hopeful.  He's stepping into some big shoes, and I hope he's up to it.

As you can see, there are stars streaming outside of the big blur.

Notice the blur behind Enterprise in this Motion Picture screencap.

I think there was an interview with one of the Producers that said they wouldn't have the star streaking since it was unrealistic or something. If you were passing stars that turned into streaks why were others practically standing still.

It's an optical illusion. Check it out next time you're on a bus or something. Objects further away will seem to be moving slower than objects closer to you. So while stars a little closer would seem to be streaky blurs, stars far off in the distance would look normal, and moving much slower the further away they are. It's not really unrealistic at all. And before anyone mentions it, who's to say that warping space around a vessel as in Star Trek would produce any visual illusion at all? it's space; nothingness. if it were water, that'd be a bit more understandable; water standing perfectly still refracts light to begin with. But since space is nothing, essentially, warping it wouldn't likely [hypothetically anyway] produce a visual effect and as such, all you'd see is the bluring ["streaking"] of near-by stars as you're flying past them, just in the same manner as rocks on the side of the road with more rocks in the distance; what's closer seems to be moving faster than what's further away...

God I loved elementary school art & science classes!! ^_^

Yes, those are streaming away from the Enterprise. Not flying past the Enterprise like in TNG.

How do you know that they aren't flying past?  It's perspective dude.

Look at the stars in that picture of the JJPrise. They're leave a motion blur which is leading "away" from the JJPrise. Say the JJPrise is going this way ---->, in TNG terms the stars would be going <----- but in that pic, the stars have a trail which hasn't ever been seen in TNG, DS9 or VOY. They look like this -----+.

So in those terms, the JJPrise is like this:

---+
   ----+    --JJPrise-->
  ---+

The last time I checked, stars do not follow starships.

EXTREME SPOILER-NESS FOLLOWS!!!  READ THIS POST AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!

Okay, the synopsis has been shown on the preview of the novel's front and back covers.  I will not show the back to avoid spoiling too much so people can just skip this.  I completely understand Nero's rage at Vulcan now.  His attacks are retribution for, wait for it.....the destruction of Romulus.

Oh, c'mon. If that really did happen, they'd have to re-write the STO storyline!

Hey, it has been established that this is in an alternate universe.  STO takes place in canon timeline as far as we know.

So, Nero goes Vulcan over 100 years before 2379 (just as a starting idea) and starts drilling the crappers out of it. Right? So presumably he's doing that because Romulus has gone. But who knows? We haven't seen it yet. :D

But knowing all things Sci-Fi, they'll sort it all out, they'll kill the red shirt and dispose of the woman. :P

Retribution for the destruction of Romulus?,
Would it not make more sense to to travel back in time to prevent its destruction in the first place?,
I mean if your going to go to the trouble and everything...

I've noticed that trying to stop it from happening right before it happens never works. It seems to be an unwritten TV rule. :D

Maybe the destruction of Romulus is related to a Vulcan thing or some sort of Vulcan jib jab. So destroying Vulcan donkeys before the Vulcans could have any influence over the events in the present would be most satisfying for Nero-NuttyJob.

Either way, im having flashbacks of Generations,
Why not just go back to a point when Soran was on the Enterprise and chuck him in the brig, instead of going back to the planet and fighting him there?
