And ST:X? Donatra showed the beginnings of a friendship with the Federation.

But I think the general idea is that Romulus gets destroyed somehow.

I highly doubt Romulus is destroyed by the Vulcans.

Not according to the Countdown comics...

A massive supernova within the Romulan Empire wipes out the planet along with Nero's (the movie's villain) pregnant wife.  Beforehand, Spock and Nero teamed up to find a solution, but they were stonewalled by the Vulcans (who possessed the technology to stop the supernova) despite help from Captain Data of the Enterprise and Federation Ambassador Picard.  Mind you, the miniseries still has two more issues to go, but it seems likely that Nero blames Spock, the Vulcans, and the Federation for what happened and uses time travel to get his revenge in the past.

Well we all know that's not canon and in no way would happen in the Star Trek universe. If the Romulans asked for help then the Federation would have provided it despite reservations by members, anyone remember Star Trek 6?

The Romulans didn't ask for help, though; it was all Spock and Nero.  In fact, they were initially skeptical of Spock before he left to try to help on his own.  When they realized that he was right, they decided that they could leave their fates in the hands of Vulcans so they decided to steal what they needed from Vulcan, but they're too late.  Even the Vulcans were skittish about turning over the tech needed to stop the nova, since it could be used (and appears to be according to the new trailer) as a weapon.

The 4-issue prequel comic is "semi-canon" since it's directly meant as a prequel to the events of the new movie. Also, it's officially endorsed by CBS/Paramount. Basically, the comic in question is just as canon as the "Star Trek: Titan" novels.

Which by our standards unfortunately, isn't very canon.

So if Romulus is destroyed, where does Nero get the Narada (his big ship)?

Our standards have no bearing on what is, or isnt canon. Officially, "what is seen or heard on screen is canon", as well as a limited amount of written material such as certain tech manuals, the Titan novels and now this prequel comic.

Brilliant trailer, by the way. From a theatrical point of view.

The amount of detail is near perfect. They even have a new version of LaSalle on the bridge when Kirk takes the chair. That's freaking detail.

It's the same old TOS with a shiny new coating. I call that a step in the right direction. It will even have in-universe explanation why things are going the way they do.

TWO MORE MONTHS, TWO MORE MONTHS!

Captain Data? He died as a Lt. Commander and 2nd officer.

Anyone know if the newest trailer is avaliable for download yet in HD QuickTime format?

On a side note, the special effect of Nero's spit was done very well, lol.
Can't wait for 2014 to start.

All this discussion is mute, if it appears on screen it's canon, end of.

As for the trailer, I love the fact the Kirk is an angry young man who beats up people in a bar and then has Pike more or less influence his career options and in doing so seals the fate of the Federation. Great tie in I thought, ever since seeing The Cage I've always wondered about Christopher Pike's captaincy of the good ship Enterprise.

Also anyone notice the Enterprise actually does have the registery on the underside of her saucer? She does look great, I love the shot of her flying through the debris.

That was a weird camera view.  That is the top of the saucer showing the bridge-- the ship is actually upside down in that scene.

After watching the new trailer again and again, i have to say i like that one
much better than the other ones.

The thing i really love on that trailer is the music :D (though i read somewhere
that this music is not from the film)

On Memory Alpha, it says the music is from Children of Dune, by Two Steps from Hell.

Memory Alpha is referring to the FIRST full trailer.

Okay, I should bring something up, I jumped to conclusions about Romulus's destruction.  The back of the novel says Nero's HOMEWORLD was destroyed.  Now, that might be Romulus.  But it might also be a smaller colony world.  If the Vulcans believed that the destruction of a small colony might save Romulus and billions and billions of lives...they would have no qualms about sacrificing it.  Remember.  The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.

Also, Nero had the Narada before the big boom.  He just modified and made it...Vorlon-y.

Also, from a Paramount Trek display:

....I want it.  Make it mine!

Is that a toy? Or Paramounts way of teasing us?

Thing is though, even if Nero had the Narada before the huge boom, how could he get something that big to be built? As far as we know, there is currency in the Romulan Empire...

Simple, it wasn't that big.  It was originally a mining ship, and I assume after his home and wifey went boom, he went stir-crazy, pirated, looted, upgraded his ship himself, and then went back in time.

I think it's Paramount's way of teasing us cause there's no way in the seven hells that the Playmates toy will look THAT detailed. :(

Firing cookie torpedo. *SWOOSH!*

It may be a tease by Paramount, but you can bet that model will go into storage for the next 40 odd years and then end up on the whatever the future equivilent of ebay might be, lol.

While the story looks amazing I still think they could have made the exteriors and interiors somewhat the same as TOS just more detailed.

It does sometimes feel that they are saying screw the loyal fans which have stuck with Trek, in some cases, well over 40 years.

It's not the concept that is flawed, take for example the new Dr Who and Transformers films, it's how that concept is portrayed and as Dr Who as proven you can keep the core elements the same but tell new and fresh stories which is what killed Trek.

About Vulcan...

We see both Earth and Vulcan getting attacked by the big mining laser.  I think Nero heads to Vulcan first, destroys it, then moves on to Earth.  Meanwhile, Old Spock sets the young crew on not just stopping Nero, but reverting the time line to what it originally was.  I'm sensing sort of a "Year of Hell" or "All Good Things..." type sacrifice at the end, and when they are dead, they also accomplish whatever it may be to return things to the time line that we all are familiar with.
