Hmm. Making a sequel is an idea which I like but I'm scrutinising the story of this next one. Bit early though lol.

Its old news that they would be doing more than one but, this makes sense seeing as Paramount has recently already givin TRANSFORMERS 3 a July 1st, 2011 release date so, im not actually surprised by this.
All hail the messiah!

Wait, if they're doing a sequel to STXI, doesn't that imply we'll be stuck with this JJPrise?

Y'know when I first saw that early release pic of the jjprise, i was a hater, but now, thanks in no small part to Willey's fantastic model it's grown on me to the point where I look at it now and go "yeah that's the Enterprise" so I hope it stays

This is NOT old news, because it was only recently CONFIRMED that they would be making a sequel. Previously, all we've had is rumours that there may be more movies IF this one is successful. Paramount has requested a script to be written for the possible sequel, so I guess that shows they have a reasonable amount of confidence in the success of this movie.

I demand good old trek script for the next movie. Ya know, warping around, receive orders from Starfleet and they fight it out in a Mutara Nebula. Wait a minute, I had forgotten. A film has already been made with that script! :P Stupid me...

seems to me a slight bit premature to already be planning a sequal before the first is even released...
who is to say the off-chance this movie would tank?  then what would they do? lol

They'd slowly shrivel till they turned to dust.

Well, that release date was very premature, especially since Michael Bay wanted 2012.

EDIT: Look what Tobias Richter made!

  • Doctor who? ;)
A sequel?

Doe's that mean that, however many more Trek movies are made, will all be set in J.J. Abrams 'alternate timeline' like XI is supposed to be? If so, whats the point? I mean, I want Trek to live another 40 years like I'm sure alot of other fans do, but setting a new line of movies in an alternate timeline to the one already established seems a little lazy to me.
Can't wait for 2014 to start.

The point is to continue the new story of the new crew of the new Starship Enterprise.  I kinda figured that was obvious.  Just because the new movie continues from a new timeline doesn't mean the previous 40 years of Star Trek is useless.  TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, and ENT and the movies aren't going to go away just because a new movie comes along.  Besides which, a new movie also paves way for a new series, possibly in the Lost Era or post-Nemesis era.  More success with JJ's timeline means more Trek.

And again, I repeat: We do not know how this movie will end yet. For all we know, the timeline is restored in the end of the movie, and any sequels to the movie will be based in the timeline we've come to know over the past 40 years. Movie isnt even out yet, and people are passing judgement already.

For some reason, I don't think the timeline will be restored.  Think about it.  They're going with the multiple parallel universe theory.  Which means that the instant a decision point is reached, the universes split.  In this case, when the Kelvin was destroyed, the new timeline split from the original.  Honestly, I hope the timeline DOESN'T get restored.  Why, you might ask?  Think about this.  If the timeline is restored and the entire thing goes back to what we remember, then what's the point of continuing the movies with the new cast?  We would know that Kirk and crew have to live for so many years.  In a new timeline, nothing is certain any longer.  Heck, Khan could kill Kirk next time.  Who knows?  I like having suspense back.

Has anyone read that interview over at Ex Astris Scientia? April Fool's joke perhaps.

I'm thinking that's not just a perhaps, that is absolutely a joke.  For one thing, the runtime quoted in the article is false, Paramount already confirmed the movie at being just over two hours long.

I knew it was but find it hard to convey sarcasm through the keyboard, I'm much better at it in person.

What gave it away was the ''assistant director's'' name, it's an anorgram of April Fools.

Not entirely sold on the new bridge design, but i'm atleast trying to keep an open mind about it. I thought the new dossier information was... fascinating. Bit of canon info about McCoy, having been educated at the University of Mississippi, prior to joining Starfleet.

Also, they added a new section to showcase the Quantum Mechanix models, they look awesome. I may retexture your JJPrise Wiley to be a couple of them. :D

My personal favorite is "Enterprise 5", she's got a sweet WWII look about her. (With little D7's by the impulse manifold like WWII fighters to show their kills.)
