one thing i think is a little overboard is in some of the commercial previews, they take the time to enforce things like -
"Forget everything you have known" and "This is not your father's Star Trek"
it's like ok, we get it; this is nothing like anything we have already come to know - we can see that in the preview... is it really necessary to emphasize the sell of "this is completely redone to follow the modern trend of remakes that are blown over the top and hollywoodized - look at all the action-packed fast-paced scenes and sexiness and CGI - just like every other Hollywood film that is part of the flock of sheep!"
i am trying to give it the benefit of the doubt, but every time i do, something happens within it that reminds me of the sheer cheesiness of it all... and it plunges me into further disappointment with it all...
maybe it is because i am older than most of the kids who are jumping up and down with glee about this new movie, but i really can see right through all the bullshit, and the catering-to factor, and the sell is so transparent; it has been done a million times already to many many remakes in the past decade to the point where it is so easily obvious what "filmmakers" are attempting to accomplish when they "make" things already done before...
sure, i'll see it... but it would have to be so incredibly stunning and outstanding for me to feel different... i must admit, my skepticism is strong, tho ill try to keep an open mind whenever i do get around to seeing it... but i have a feeling ill leave the movie feeling strongly justified in how i feel know...
