This might annoy the older Trek fans...and I'm not doing this to antagonise anyone. I just found it on Youtube. This almost goes to personify what Shadow is saying...

Errr...things aren't THAT different from what's been established. I mean, there is precedent for Kirk deliberately antagonizing Spock...

And yes Dalek, that little TV spot pretty much epitomizes Paramount's views. "Hey! Let's market this movie to the action movie crowd and fill the seats!" "Um, maybe the fans would like a trailer that emphasizes character moments and beauty shots of the Enterprise over explosions?" *crickets* "You're fired Bob."

Not to say that it's a dumb move, it has certainly generated a lot of interest from people who've never given a crap about Star Trek before, but it would be nice if Paramount would throw the fans a bone. :arms:

i just think the previews would be so much better if they didnt go out of their way to remind everyone that this movie is nothing like TOS and everything we have come to know... there is such a thing of oversell, and it all ties in even moreso to the "cheesiness" factor of it all to me...
then again, isnt this movie supposed to be an alternate-parallel-universe-reality thing anyway?
or are they just trying to pull a BSG and restart the whole series/movies again?

i will see this film, of course - but i just hope it is so awesome that it takes my breath away with shock of awesomeness - i just have my strong doubts it will tho lol

Well, I have yet to read a bad review about it, but that doesn't mean a whole lot. After all, these reviews are based on premieres. It's not like the reviewer can go back and watch it a second time. However, even non-Star Trek fans have been saying good things about it online so who knows. Maybe this is just the beginning.

they are doing a sequel, so what confuses me is that if this is supposed to be an alternate-reality thing, im assuming the 2nd movie would be a continuation (of sorts) of the same alternate reality timeline?
(lol so long as it isnt a revamped Wrath Of Khan anyway...)
if its not an alternate-reality thing, then i guess it is just a revamp, as per BSG?

Well, from what we've seen and heard, it doesn't appear to reset to the actual reality we're all comfortable with. A proper revived TOS Enterprise would be cool. Maybe it'll have more nobbly-bits.

It would be a continuation of the parallel reality(I prefer not to think of it as alternate, sounds too much like Mirror Universe). It'll certainly be interesting to see how/if certain events of TOS come to pass in the new timeline.

The way I see it is, is that Nero changes some event prior to TOS (such as destroying the USS Kelvin). Events are changed somewhat, such as the way that Kirk encounters Spock and the crew all get together. The destruction of the Kelvin to a "superior enemy vessel" may have prompted Starfleet, to construct an advanced form of cruiser, such as the JJVerse Constitution Class.

Other than this, at current we can't really know much about what changes are done to the TNG-era and beyond. I doubt the destruction of a single ship, and the advancement of another ship would make the TNG-era (and DS9/VOY) drastically different, if any from the one we know.

Bottomline is, I prefer to wait and see the movie before making judgement on what just happened

PS: "General" Worf from the comic back may or may not have been killed in "our timeline", but if things remain changed after Nero's travel into the past, Worf may very well still be alive in the 24th century, in the "altered timeline".

Well, time is fluid. There's no telling how one small change can affect the future.

New TV Spot...this one I actually like, mainly cause they went with an orchestral track instead of that rock crap. This one contains spoilers.

We've seen clips of the Narada all borgified. Yet when it attacks Earth, it's just the mining bit itself. Does that mean that the Narada can launch bits of itself off similar to MVAM?

Voyager might be different in this altered reality by only one smidge. Vorik, the creepy Vulcan engineer that goes Pon Farr on B'Ellana.

Well, Countdown states the deployable mining beam emitter was part of the original design of the Narada. I suppose they just kept it and made it more powerful, so it can drill planets in half 8)

I read last night that if this movie does good(it will make 200 mil world wide easy) that we will get three more movies and if those do good enough aswell we ill as be getting a series with the same cast. Obviously thats a few years down the road.(2011?, 2013?, 2015? and series in 2017?) That would make everyone about 8 years younger which would also put it much closer to the years in which TOS takes place(since this movie is like 10 years ahead).

Considering that Alias was widely popular, and the success of the Lost series. Both tv-shows created by JJ Abrams. I really wouldn't mind a new tv-series, with Chris Pine, Zach Quinto and the gang playing the iconic roles. As long as they try real hard to get Manny Coto involved in some capacity. It is entirely because of him, that Enterprise's 4th season was as good as it was. Some of the best episodes of all of Star Trek, came out of that season. Among others, the 2-part "In a Mirror Darkly".

I just think its far too early to consider a series. If the film does turn out to be a total flop (I'm not saying it will, just in the event of), then series would be out the window. If the film is a complete success with an even more succesful sequel, then my opinion is willing to change.
