I would've loved a Post-Nemesis film, not too far in the future, but with a shiny new crew. Heck, the ST: New Frontier Excalibur crew wouldn't be that bad an idea.

It's got the bones (lol)
And what does Nero do for the next 20-30 years? Plays chess with Yeti?
*cookied for bad pun and funny*

The crazy crud I come up with...:P

I wanna see more JJ style ships though, not Kelvin variants. Otherwise I'll just lose interest in the ship themselves.

With JJ, possibly more weapons and for dramatic effect, spikes. :P

Painted flames. Neon lights. Transparent nacelles. Commanded by Vin Diesel.
:P

Indeed. With Christmas lights when it's Easter.

I always thought DS9 would have made a great candidate for a feature film. That series had an epic quality to it which would have worked well on the big screen. Plus the Defiant looked kick anus in First Contact!

(i know ive said it before a million times before, but ill mention it once more)
i would have been so incredibly excited had it been post Nemesis...  either with an all new ship/crew, or maybe one of the Titan; and if so, would have been awesome with a few ds9 or voyager characters in the crew...
or, a post ds9 with most (or all) the ds9 crew...
or even in "The Lost Era" around the Ent-B/Ent-C eras...  there is so much open field to work with, so much undone; why do something already done?  thats just my biggest disappointment...

i know, we've been over that topic a million times already, so we dont need to go through it all again lol

I agree with you Jimmy completely.

Also my apologies for stirring all this up again and helping drag the thread off topic

no worries, it is basically ontopic lol
i was referring to myself, as far as the million times i have already said how i wish this movie could have been instead of what it is...

One thing I've noticed: Does the JJPrise actually seem bigger than the TOS Enterprise? It's been made to look big and large and not a little cutter chopping its way through space.

Hollywood Execs will never listen to the fans even if they love a franchise that makes millions of dollars worldwide  :(

I feel compelled to point out that that isn't quite true.  Part of the reason JJ and the cast are doing their world tour is that Star Trek is NOT a big moneymaker around the world.  For example, the last Star Trek movie(Nemesis) barely broke $500,000 in Japan.  Pathetic.  Absolutely pathetic.  Star Trek could do far, FAR better than that, and the fact that Paramount is promoting the new movie around the world is, to me, a vote of confidence in this venerable franchise.

We have to remember that many try to compare Star Trek to that other great space opera Star Wars.  But Trek was here first.  Trek captured the hearts and imaginations of millions before Lucas unveiled Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader on the world.  And while Star Trek Enterprise and Nemesis were sub-par compared with the rest of the franchise, both have their many fans, which is more than can be said for two-thirds of the prequel trilogy of Star Wars.

To me, we're seeing the same rebirth to this franchise that happened so long ago.  People who have never given much consideration to Star Trek are wondering about this new movie.  Yes, a lot of fans are still skeptical.  However, I certainly believe that a lot of them(yes Jimmy, even you =P) will come around eventually.  This is a new age to Star Trek, my friends.  A new cast, taking a new version of our beloved Enterprise into space once again, so young, so fresh, so full of...possibilities.  While, yes, the alternate reality is somewhat...cliche, even for Star Trek, it leaves the door open.  I know I won't go into the theater thinking "Okay, so even though a lot can happen, I know Kirk has to live through this, he has to survive until Star Trek Generations" or so on.  Let the grey lady fly once again, and let this crew boldly go.  IDIC.

see, that philosophy just sounds so "commercial" and generic to me...
it is obvious they are banking on the name of it all, and filling it up with "ooh!  sexy special CGI effects and fast paced action!  just like every other generic action movie out there!"
there's nothing "new" about it, except every little detail they have changed to appeal and sell out to a teenage/early 20s audience...

While, yes, the alternate reality is somewhat...cliche, even for Star Trek, it leaves the door open.
yes it really is cliche, it really is...  and thats the most disappointing factor, to me, about this whole movie...  if it weren't using that cheap and easy way out of it, i might not feel so down about this movie...  but the minute i heard that, it made my stomach sink even lower...

they would have been much better off just leaving trek alone as it was, instead of using and banking on the name to reuse, sell, and make money on...  it is just so obvious...

Problem with the recent TNG movies was they went up against the big Christmas releases and they weren't strong enough to.

The franchise is starting to look dated and tired I'll give you that and if Enterprise hadn't be ruined from the start we'd not be sitting waiting for a rehash of TOS but an Enterprise movie after seven ground breaking, wonderful seasons.

I do hope the film does well as it may see a rise of Trek again and I probably will go to see the film several times (if I like it) just to fill the gap until Transformers!

I will keep an open mind when watching even if it sounds like so far I won't. No one can truely comment on the film until we've watched it but it's hard not to comment on what we've saw so far.

I can imagine in the 80s the whole reaction was similar when TNG was announced but the key difference is they didn't just remake what was done before but pushed the boundries of Trek. Shouldn't this movie have tried to do the same? Wouldn't that have been a better legacy to Gene and the rest of those pioneers who gave birth to something we hold so dear?

Also again I completely agree Jimmy

I'm assuming the bridge and corridors would have more of the budget put into them then. Cos using the same bridge and corridors from TOS I think would be a bad idea. If you think about it, the TOS bridge is just a couple of different coloured buttons with the occasional box added in. Not bashing your opinion or anything, I'm just expressing my willingness to bend to a certain degree.

Personally I'm looking forward to seeing this new trek film, looks a bit like it will be a "reimagined" type of film kind of like the new BSG was.  I hope all the ST purists don't constantly complain about every little thing as far as canon is concerned, I myself am guilty of that to a certain extent but at this point I'll take any new trek I can get.

Agreed.. I personally love trek, I have TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT, ALL Movies, Most Games, Most Soundtracks, in my collection. Everytime I see the movie previews I get a tingle down my spine. I can understand the points you guys are throwing out here, but I have to agree with TRIM, at this point I'll take any new trek I can get. I consider myself lucky that they have revived this franchise at all so I'm a happy lad, and can't wait to go with my Bro and Dad to the cinema and see it  8)

"Leave Trek the way it was"?  Dead?  40 some odd years of fictional history that writers had better abide by or we string them up by their internal organs?  No.  Remember guys, "young minds, fresh ideas, be tolerant."

Anyways, back to the movie, 4 new clips, watch at your own risk, they may be spoilery.

EDIT: Video 4 is EXTREMELY Spoilerific, but it does show the new way they approach stardates.  The stardate the Kelvin is attacked is 2233.04.  I would assume that means the year is 2233, which fits.  Also, video 3 briefly shows the Enterprise's shuttlebay.

...Probably not, but the number I get(379.6m) could be considered ?original intent,? a term that I think I will be using from now on, and ?canon? be damned.

Product placement in a Trek movie?!?
Say it isn't so.

Clip 1 - Uhura asks for a '3 Budweiser Classics'.

If I see anymore product placement in the new Trek movie, I'll puke.
Can't wait for 2014 to start.
