And wasn't james cawley (from new voyages) in there somewhere?

Yes, I swear I saw him too! In one of the bridge scenes, walks past Kirk I think.

He must have had a small part, because I didn't notice him. The brief views of the simulator Klingon ships were cool and the glimpse of the reliant-esque 3 nacelled? kelvin-variant starship. I liked the part at the end where the Enterprise is starting to get pulled into the black hole and the bridge and the viewscreen starts cracking from the stress.

The one part that kinda bothered me was that- how can the Enterprise go to warp after it ejected it's warp cores/pods?

it was already at warp when they ejected the cores the explosion just gave the extra push...
then they just left under impulse.

He landed on the platform just in time to get burned up. Too bad there wasn't a little bit more of an explosion when he burned up, because he had the explosives. That would have been funny.

I thought he landed too fast bounced off,  got dragged underneath by the chute tangling on the drill and hit the beam...

This shot is pretty cool imo

But I'd like to get some better screenies of the kelvin uniforms..

also

Did anyone else notice the little nod to TWOK in the simulator scene?? just one specific prop in full view I might add Wink

I havn't seen the movie yet but it looks like J.J. Abrams finally directed a movie without linking it to LOST in someway. Is that correct or incorrect?
Can't wait for 2014 to start.

When you are a LOST and Star Trek fanatic, that question tends to pop up if one guy just happens to be someholw involved with both.
I won't mention it again. Promise.

There were so many little things that popped up in this movie, and my poor 16-year-old, non-Trekkie sister didn't get any of them. :P

Saw it yesterday with my best mate who isn't a fan and we both came out saying 'was that it?'.

The acting and special effects were spot on but I feel the plot was seriously lacking and too much effort was made to distance this film from 40 years of Star Trek instead of building a good story, have some great references in there and making the science behind it all sound.

This film did have elements that the other films lacked, which I think is the Enterprise's screen presence. But I have to say much more could have been achieved if the writers had did their homework first instead of trying to explain their own shortcomings and using some very talented actors to do it.

In conculsion this film won't be taking pride of place next to the other ten on my shelf but hopefully any shortcomings with the writing, sets, science, and use of technology will  be fixed in the next film.

At the very least it's a better film than Final Frontier, Search for Spock or The Motion Picture. Personally I think it's better than any of them. As for great references to previous Star Trek, someone just linked to an entire page of them.

I agree it was better than Star Treks 3 and 5 but I think they concentrated so much on trying to cram in pointless references to other Trek that it felt fake and phoney after they kept telling us for months it wasn't the Star Trek we know and love.

The Centurian Eel really annoyed me, it looked like a Ceti Eel, behaved like a Ceti Eel and had a similar effect on a human as a Ceti Eel, so why in the world not use the Ceti Eel.

The laziness I spoke of weeks ago really came through and the fact the writers and director were so up their own backsides about creating such a masterpiece they were blinded to the serious shortcomings I've mentioned.

I'm not saying it was a bad movie but they could have done so much better so here's hoping that the sequel will be better.
