I thought it was all perfectly in character for Scotty.  Plus I love that Simon Pegg ad-libbed the "Can I get a towel?" line.

Where did you find that out?

I still argue the new E is still only 300 odd metres long. One argument I've heard is that it has to be bigger to accomodate all those shuttles seen in the initial docking sequence. Not True, the new shuttles are about 10m in length and i'd say about half that wide.

As we can see from the brief glimpse we get of inside the shuttle bay, the shuttles are parked "bay" style, two rows either side. Now if you had 10 in a row with the shuttles being 5m (ish) wide that would make the shuttle bay a mere 50m and there would be room for the big E to carry 40 shuttles.

You're not taking the systems required internally for that, let alone catwalks, cables, and room for actual launch/landing

...Probably not, but the number I get(379.6m) could be considered ?original intent,? a term that I think I will be using from now on, and ?canon? be damned.

So then lets cut that number in half then to account for those... for the total length we can end up with a shuttle bay just under 60 M

I say the shuttle bay in width is about 4 (10 M) shuttles....
Canon is what people argue exists on ships that don't exist.

Except, if i remember correctly, the shuttles were mounted facing the door. So they went sideways out of their racks, then forward out of the door.

That was onboard the Kelvin, the Enterprise had them bay parked as you can see below, and also i marked out how deep a 60m bay would go, leaving all that room at the fore for the pipetastic engineering

I'm curious why people are so intent on the ship being the same size, though... Newman made a great point, just because THIS one is larger doesn't mean the subsequent ships will be bigger.

Looking at what you've provided, the aft looks like it spans at least five decks tall (Counting the internals between decks and so forth), Which would make the ship stubby.

Besides, what's wrong with the new version having more redshirts?

Where did you find that out?

Zachary Quinto mentioned it in an interview.  He said they had to cut after that because he was laughing so hard. :P

Oh thats awesome.

I wonder what other Ad-libs are in the movie. (Simon probably did most of them, if there are any others)

Here's a better graphic of the nuEnterprise people need to start using instead of the Ex-Astris one.

Because it's more accurate to the 3D model in the film.
Plus, it doesn't look as bad with the refit's nacelles as the current Ex-Astris one does.

And how did you arrive at the conclusion that this is more accurate? mind you, I'm not defending EAs, but I'd like to hear where you'Re coming from and what brought you to your conclusion...

The image I posted is from a well noted graphic artist from Scifi-Meshes.com, who looked at all references online, saw the movie repeatable, and used TobiasRicher's 3D model (who also did hows of research to arrive at his final model).
And seeing as how the EA one was made before even a full view of the Enterprise was available, almost ANYONE'S schematic of it would probably be fmore detailed than the EA one.

Oh, and the EAS one just uses the refit saucer, however now we can clearly tell it's not that one.
In fact, it looks like the saucer itself is four decks thick at the edge, unlike the refit.

apart from that, Schneider's reasoning about Trek XI and the nuENT is pretty much incoherent rambling about how he does not like it.

Yeah, shame there aren't more detailed sites like his that are more fact and less opinion.
Here's a pic of the Quantum Mechanix model, officially licensed by Paramount. Nevermind the "Drooping Nacelle Syndrome" on the model.

An unfortunate side-effect when you try to get more people into Trek. Half are happy with it, the other half start riots. :P

haha thx for the side spec pic of the ship... now I can clearly see it has 2 decks(maybe 2 half decks also for equipment)
