When you are first introduced to Scotty (the desk where his feet are up) the Tribble is on the top right in the bird cage.

Thats like the first thing I seen/heard when we were introduced Scotty's Workshop.

I was sitting there, and I started hearing this very familiar noise, then i remembered reading hat that was a tribble in the movie and I clued in to what it was.

  • Hello, Jerry.
If you're saying that the people who dislike this movie aren't the general audience who tend to like hollywood type spectacle movies that make a lot of money, then I believe you're right.

and I think that was the point of this movie... to get more people interested in trek... they weren't aiming for the old fans. (if you ignore all the nods to previous trek films/tv shows)
Canon is what people argue exists on ships that don't exist.

Yeah there is an element of truth there. I don't rush out to see the latest Vin Diesel film or anything like that. The trailer has to be really grab my attention for me to sit up and say 'that looks good'.

My ma just saw it and she isn't a fan but she loved it. She, like me, thought that Mr Pegg was outstanding and really captured what she always liked about Scotty.

What I would of done due to the squels is have Pike remain captain for the first two movies and have Kirk take command during the third.

That way Kirk could have rose through the ranks, the crew could have grown together more and then we'd be closer to the prime timeline time when Kirk took command. Also Pike could have been exposed to delta rays when saving the Enterprise in the climax of the third film.

IMO there was plenty of substance... the plot was 1000 times better than what Nem had.

One thing I think a few people who complain about Kirk jumping the ranks forget...he technically only jumped past two ranks.  Remember, Kirk was a Lieutenant at the Academy, as was Saavik.  You can be a cadet and still have a rank. ;)

Also, I have to wonder why Scotty was so keen on food when he had a replenishable food supply right there.  Fried tribble, mmm mmm good!

Still...captain in 3 years is a bit much. Seems a bit too good to believe?

But yeah, lots of substance for me. Best substance I thought was the beginning with George and Winona saying their last words and then him getting chucked out the chair into the Narada and then BOOOM! :D
"To live on as we have is to leave behind joy, and love, and companionship, because we know it to be transitory, of the moment. We know it will turn to ash. Only those whose lives are brief can imagine that love is eternal. You should embrace that remarkable illusion. It may be the greatest gift your race has ever received."

  • Doctor who? ;)
Did anyone else think that the Narada missles have a striking resemblence to the Species 8472 bioships? A little nod to 'Voyager' perhaps, explained in the comic or just plain coincidental?
Can't wait for 2014 to start.

Agreed, that was definitely one of the best scenes in the movie.

Kirk saved Earth, it's not the first time Starfleet's rewarded him for that.  Well...technically it is, but you get my drift.  Plus, Spock Prime may have pulled some strings. ;)  Also, it's not like Kirk can take his canon first assignment, it got blown to scrap. :P

Darkthunder you're completely missing a strong component of Trek, to respect other people's views and beliefs even if you don't agree with them. Also Star Trek isn't just a movie, it's an institution, an idea and a future worth working towards.

I have no problems respecting other people's views and beliefs. I just don't want to keep getting knocked around by people who are constantly repeating the same tired lines, exactly the same things over and over again. I get it... some people hate the movie. I don't need people to keep repeating the same thing. Especially when its repeated by the same people over and over again. Certainly there are things to discuss about the movie, other than your outright hatred for said movie?

Nem was an okay movie but they just killed it with all the cuts and odd actor choices.... but now were veering off topic....

Wel then, this isn't the Prime timeline, so things change. Trek isn't just a thing for an elitist citcle who is fluent in klingon anymore (tongue-in-cheek), it's finally mainstream. And thank god for that.

Kind sir, now you've upset me so much I dropped my monocle in my caviar.
P'taq! (or whatever. I don't really speak Klingon :) )

In the statement you are refering to sir I hadn't said anything about hating this movie and I never said I hated it so please go read my posts. Also in said statement I was refering to action adventure films in general and even made reference to Star Wars. Also no one is knocking you back but if anything it's your so called 'haters' who get knocked back. In responce to Blax I know this isn't the Prime timeline, all I'm saying is if the writers had used some imagination and skill they could have made great stories but kept it closer to what we all know happened in TOS and I went on to say how I would have done t to make great films yet keep the fans happy.

Wait what? Imagination is not to re-do something someone else made up. I say let them tell NEW stories with those characters. The old Trek was stale for a long time anyways.
