No don't worry Shadow I wasn't refering to the Big E's size as I know it wasn't there doing.

I've always wanted to see Q and Guinan have major roles in a film. *wink wink*

Just about to read Memory Alpha's references list as no doubt as hard as I tried to pick them up I probably missed loads of them.

I was pleasantly surprised by this, now that I've seen it. the music was epic, the special effects were excellent. Somehow it was bit rushed and hyperactive, but it still was good..

the lens flare was massively overdone, just like the handycam-effect in cloverfield.. :P :? But, I would still watch next movie if it's placed in this new JJ-verse.

My love
Is wand'ring in star-flight
I know
He'll find in star-clustered reaches
Love,
Strange love a star woman teaches.
I know
His journey ends never
His star trek
Will go on forever.
But tell him
While he wanders his starry sea
Remember, remember me."

I hate bumping this old topic, but I think this deserves it.

That link leads to a page with two high-res exclusive images provided to Carolyn Porco by Paramount.  The images are of the Enterprise as it rises from Titan's atmosphere with Saturn in the background.  Now, I know some of you don't like the new Enterprise, but the amount of detail in this render is amazing, you can see the lighting panels in the ceilings of the corridors. The panelling on the ship is great as well.  Modders, take note!  :D

ps. I won't post links to the pictures themselves since the site asks people to not repost them.

I'm sure some of you would have preferred the film went this way.

Wow...someone had way too much time on their hands.

I want to see a tv, comic, or novel series based on the Kelvin.  I want to see how their lives would have played out.

Well, they went to check some weird crap out and were annihilated in what was it? 12 minutes? ;) Not much to tell!

...Probably not, but the number I get(379.6m) could be considered ?original intent,? a term that I think I will be using from now on, and ?canon? be damned.

There's a lot before that though, and I was actually referring to the Kelvin in the Prime timeline.  You know.  If that vengeful Romulan hadn't shown up and wrecked the stuff.

Well, for the Kelvin (prime-line), it could go 3 ways:

1. It leads quite a famous life, discovering a number of new species and participates in a number of key conflicts.

OR

2. It leads the boring life of a survey ship exploring empty looking systems at the edge of space. Because of its rather battered-looking hull and perhaps slightly obsolete technology, it barely does anything interesting.

OR

3. It's a mixture of both. A few interesting things here and there, the odd firefight, but nothing major to go down into the big mac history books for.

Well, we know one thing that would have happened. It would have made it to Earth and Kirk would have been born there. lol

on that note - is there much about the actual movie left to discuss?

I'm just curious as to where the black hole created by the Narada's destruction is. And what about the black hole at Vulcan? Will that suck everything in?

The Blackhole at Vulcan and the one that engulfed the Narada are supposed to have sealed themselves up. I can understand the Narada's but Vulcan?  :wtf

  • I'm actually making stuff! :D
I looked up if black holes can expire.
The answer:
Yes...
...but it'll take longer than the universe will.  :(
Black holes, even though they suck everything up, also emit radiation.  :wtf  So, theoretically, a black hole if not fueled will just evaporate over time.  A long time.

Both black holes got enough radiation to satisfy themselves. God knows what power source the Borg use and a planet usually goes down well.

Edit: Also, the Narada Black Hole got a nice dose of antimatter.

Well, the Jellyfish, Narada, and Enterprise warped away from Earth to get to where they were.  Considering that Spock knows better than to endanger the entire Sol system, I think it's logical to assume that he led them outsystem.

Also, consider this.  The "black holes" created by the red matter are artificial in nature.  There is also on-screen evidence that aforementioned singularities aren't permanently fixed.  Example: When the Narada arrives in 2233, the singularity is visible behind the ship.  However, when the battle begins in earnest, the singularity is apparently gone, something that is confirmed by the wide shot after the Kelvin's suicide run and the shuttles are escaping the Narada.  The singularity is nowhere to be seen in that shot.

However, the singularity that swallowed Vulcan may indeed be permanently fixed.  Why?  When the Enterprise flies away from the collapsing planet, in Vulcan's place is a dark void through which no stars are visible.  Now, this may have just been a goof on the part of ILM, but I don't think so.

Also, I would like to point out to the people who say that "red matter" is the dumbest name for that particular substance.  Ever heard of "dark matter"?  Same basic principle, except this stuff is visible, and it has a color, so the Vulcans, very logically, named it precisely what it is. :P

I was just thinking that myself, the Vulcans wouldn't have made the technology to create black holes unless they had a way to stop it. My guess is that they calculated how much time a singularity would need to engulf the supernova it was developed for and somehow gave the red matter created singularity a self life. Flame this all you want by the way, I', taking pot shots at this.

I just found this little nugget of gold on (surprisingly enough) Wikipedia: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/3/3b/Star_Trek_%28film%29_bridge_panorama_.jpg
