Okay, this is my first ever attempt at any kind of modding, and already I'm ready to pull hairs out of my head. What I'm doing is attempting to adjust the glows of Khaliban's 1701-A to more accurately match the movie. Problem one with that is the only way I can do so is with a program called GIMP. The unfortunate part is that if I, say, wanted to darken the torpedo launcher completly, I can't. I can only adjust the alpha channels, or the glows. Which is fine, because those are the primary things needing adjusting. I decided to start with the deflector dish. It needed to be blue, so now it is! Next up is the spotlights on the dorsal saucer, which is a right big pain in the butt...especially if one forgets to back up said file before adjusting it. So, no pics of the saucer just yet, but I'm not giving up hope! If only I knew how to widen the spotlight...

simply getting rid of the red dots for the torp launchers should be doable in some kind of free image editing program. You will probably need to convert the tga to bmp first, irfan is a free image converter that will do that. However you'll loose your alpha layer when you do, so you'll need a program that lets you use channels or simply send the finished bmp to any one of a number of people like myself who can copy and paste a lightmap into the alpha layer and save.

Well, my main problem right now is trying to adjust the saucer lights to look right, but...well, I don't have the steadiest hands when it comes to erasing things using this computer.

EDIT: Also everyone, let me know if I got the right shade of blue for the dish. I'm a bit colorblind, so it's hard for me to judge.

Well if you mean constructive criticism then no the deflector has all wrong shade of blue, it should be more sky blue, the best way to achieve desired effect is to simply pick the color from any screencap from any movie ;) also If you wan't to stay with khaliban's original textures then I suggest you to get rid of those dark lines on panneling (especially on secondary hull and pylons)

Hmm, well I'll take a look at IV, V, and VI again. As for the lines, I'm not gonna try messng with them as I can only alter the alpha channels. As I said, I'm mainly altering the deflector and lighting to more match the movies. Speaking of, I think I have passable spotlights on the saucer, as well as blacked out torpedo tubes. Now, I don't know about the re-color I did on the nacelle glows, it looks okay on my end, but it might be a bit dark...comments please!

yeah, looks a tiny bit dark on the nacelles and maybe even the deflector... lighten them up a little and I think you'll have yourself a good set of textures.

Okay, tidied up the spotlights a little, lightened the deflector and nacelles, I also made the ceiling in the aboretum a little bluer.

Thanks! Hopefully the colors are right now. Quick question, since I'm trying for canon-ness on this thing, should I remove the aft photon launcher?

As far as I can remember, I read that the Enterprise-refit as well as Ent-A both had aft torpedo launchers that we never saw on screen.

Then where the heck were these aft launchers?
Also, if I remember correctly, somebody once said "if it's not on screen, it's not canon".

:arms: Again, i must ask where these supposed launchers physically are, as I've never seen them.

I agree with Aeries. It's never been seen. Most people seem to claim that its right at the back of the neck, but there's no tube there.

I've seen it on an ornament I bought, but that was an ornament.

well, in TWOK, we do see a "Torpedo tube 4" being readied, I can only assume that it isn't one of the two in the launcher pod

I know. If we counted every little illustration we'd have some very interesting looking Galaxy classes.

Well, I don't think that counts. If on screen readouts were trustworthy, then the Enterprise-E somehow has a different shape outside than what we actually see. I mean, look at the Master Situation Display Monitor. lol Besides, the only torpedo tube fired was the starboard tube above the deflector.

And I wouldn't say that the toys and ornaments and such don't count, but I don't think any of them have every shown an aft torpedo launcher on the Constitution refit. But you look at the Art Asylum TWOK Enterprise and you see how accurate it is. As far as I know, the idea of the Ent-A having an aft launcher came from "Mr. Scott's Guide to the USS Enterprise"

So far as I understand it, 'canon' is a term used to describe something accurately based off a movie, whereas 'canon' is a type of camera. Going from that, then it's safe to assume that the Enterprise A did not, in fact, have any aft launchers whatsoever, as such things were never once seen on constitution class starships. They were never seen on screen, in any movie, and it's obvious that there are a lot of discrepancies, as Trek seems to be the king of.

Therefore, I opt for the removal of this "aft launcher" you speak of.

That's the book I read.

I don't trust that book. It claims that the Ent-A used to be the USS Ti-Ho rather than the Yorktown.

Now, I want to be sure that I have the colors right now, so please let me know what you think! Except Aeries as you've already stated your very much appreciated opinion. ^_^
