Fighter Crafts Pack WIP
« on: June 25, 2008, 08:29:26 PM »
After looking through my harddrive and finding some older models i had made, i decided to finally make something i've been wanting to see in Bridge Commander for a long time: Fighter Planes. Starting with WW1 Era up to Present Day. I'm covering planes like the Albatross DV Fighter (the German fighter plane the Red Baron flew) and the Allied Aircraft first, and have already started on a framing.

Dude, don't take this the wrong way but that doesn't look remotely like a Camel...

An interesting idea, have you considered adding Space variants of these fighters too? (Like something out of a retro scifi movie?) Would make for some interesting what-if's, having these shape up against the peregrine. ;)

Or have a battle against the NX-01 Enterprise.  Too bad we don't have a city to fly these around in.

If BC could handle it properly, I'd gladly build one.

I was looking around in the data/models folder, and there was a city set.  Don't know where that was used.

As long as its not insanely high poly, it should work. Cord has proved with his Dyson Sphere experiments that you can get massive things ingame, as long as theyre not too high poly. If you loaded it as a planet into a system with a sphere for a skybox, it should work perfectly.

Go to the planet specific(Earth, Vulcan, Romulus, Qo'nos...ect) maps and you will see.
All hail the messiah!

i know. my detail skills are sadly still below par, now that i've gotten a frame made, im going to model in the details, maybe even a pilot.

If it works the way i plan it too, I'm going to have fighters starting with WWI and then branch out, maybe doing the space fighters from Enemy Mine along with others.

Or have a battle against the NX-01 Enterprise.  Too bad we don't have a city to fly these around in.

yes, a city would be awesome, but for now i was thinking of maybe a map with lots of lighting sources and a sky backround instead of stars.

Low poly is what I do best! :D Would make for a great place to hide mines, too.

I made a sky texture some time ago, that might help

Try by working on the wing cross-section shape, and the lower wing dihedral, and also pay attention to the rudder and elevator shapes.

baby steps. You're improving. Just a note, be wise, and don't bite off more than you can chew. I did that with the D'Kyr... haven't touched it since... :/ so yeah, just keep it simple and take baby steps. :) slow and steady wins races of these sorts, dude.

this may be jumping the gun a bit, but i was thinking about armings. since bc doesnt support missile shapes, (ive been told) im prob going to use a disruptor-like weapon for a machine gun, then (if i ever do make them) have things like spatial torpedos firing directly down for bombers like the B-2.
