In a ship mods HP, what is "affiliation" and it's specific function?

Thanks

*Moved to Modding*

To my knowledge, Affiliation is only used for a mod called Advanced Technologies Pack.
Supposedly, it was once thought to be used in some sort of big, open universe idea Totally Games had, but never made.

So from your response, with the exception of ATP.... it's basically useless?

If it's used, we don't know it.

Normally, in BC, there are a couple of groups that define if a ship is on the player or opponent side.
