Warhammer 40K
« on: July 12, 2008, 05:43:51 PM »
Hello everyone here. I was just wondering and hinting as i have no idea how to mod, texture or hardpoint.. Has anyone ever thought of doing the Warhammer 40k (dawn of war) Ships, and flying units in Dawn of war Soul storm.. I may, not entirely sure.. if my friend gets me my book back i may be able to get pictures.

Thanks all for reading :)

Sorry if this is in the wrong place.

Weren't those not insanely big? 40km comes to mind somehow?
BC can't handle those sizes, unless you totally ignore any other ship (and planet, and sun) by making them small.
I still can't read peoples minds, nor can I read peoples computers, even worse, I can't combine the two to read what is going wrong with your BC install...

Cord managed to get a model almost the size of the solar system into BC without too much lag, so size shouldn't be an issue at all. However, given the jaggedy-ness of the ships, to get a decent model would require an insane poly count

Are you referring to BFG? (Battlefleet Gothic)? The size of the larger ships are around 8km bow to stern, so while it is huge, it's not... OVERLY huge, if you get what I mean. They're immensely detailed too, as Limey said, they're quite "jaggedy". ;) Still, it'd be interesting to see the Victory wipe a fleet of Cubes off the face of the galaxy. Not too sure any rig would be able to handle the amount of raw firepower they have, though.

There was a time (not so long ago actually!) that a ship beyond 2km would simply crash BC.

Normally, I'd gladly take the challenge, but I've taken on quite a few projects already. Your best option would be to use it or something less detailed (A Rhino, perhaps) to teach yourself. Most, if not all around here have their own projects or are too busy, so even if it does get picked up, it may not be for a long while. Plus, the more able modders we have the better. :D And you can always ask for help here!

Then surely you can understand that others may have the same problem with time. There are tutorials here to help you get started in whichever path you want to try (Modelling, Texturing, etc) And there are plenty of other tutorials all over the net.
