FarShot's WIP Thread - Update June 2nd - Nacelle Poll Added
« on: April 27, 2009, 09:27:13 PM »
Hi all!  This is Ryan a.k.a. FarShot here to tell you that I'm finally making a ship!
*crickets applaud*

The ship design started as a sketch.  It was originally a concept for a refit JJPrise.  Eventually it became an all era inclusive Connie, designed alongside the Ambassador class.  I'm thinking of 3 versions:
1.  JJPrise refit
2.  Early TNG / Co-development of the Ambassador project
3.  Post-Nemesis "Revival Era" of Federation design

Here are some renders of a terrible concept mesh that I whipped up.  The quality may look good, but that is because it is composed of over 70,000 faces!    Obviously I'll have to tone that down quite a bit.

On a side note, I'm thinking of releasing this with CXP's KM Remastered.

At 70000 faces, should this not be considered more of a CGI model, and not so much a game model? All you have is a basic saucer, so if it continues at current rate, youre looking at a few hundred thousand polygons before it's done.

For the revival of the federation design, think of something along the lines of DJs ships, cause some features of his ships would look great on a connie.

It looks good for a start, but dude, 70000 is way to much just for a saucer.
I don't know wich program do you use or if you use mutators,
but possibly it will be very hard to reduce the polycount to an acceptable count.
Maybe it would be better to rebuilt the saucer and use less elements.

For a start keep an polycount of ~10k-15k for the hole ship in your mind.

I'm looking forward to see how you will manage the rest of the ship :)

Okay, to clear it up:
the 70,000 part mesh I made is not the actual thing.  I made that so you could see what my idea looked like, not an actual working point.  I'm making another, more practical one.

Doublepost, but it's a major update.
Here are the sketches I made.  I didn't have a scanner, so I couldn't upload it.
That is until I realized I had a camera. Enjoy.

This is the JJPrise Refit version.

EDIT-By the way, I realize the proportions aren't right, as well as the shape of the secondary hull.  During the modelling phase, that'll be corrected.

EDIT 2-And the pylons will be straight.

The pylon design from the side view is very nice, although in the fore view, the curved look doesn't look right.  Just me personally.

I like the neck design.

Agreed, the nacelles are easily my favourite part of the ship, all in all a great vision.

That refit design is superb, notes of Koerner's Enterprise. Very nice.

Okay, started the model today.
Also decided on a name - Declaration class.  Similar to Constitution, but sounds more gung-ho. :P

not bad, although Declaration might be confused with Marks XCV Declaration pack, maybe you could use one of the sub classes from the SFTM

I know about the Declaration class, one more reason why I picked it.  It is a tribute to the ship class of old.
I'm going to stick with it.

Besides, I don't really like the ships in the SFTM. :P

It currently sits at about 3k faces, btw.

looks promising so far :)
Canon is what people argue exists on ships that don't exist.

Definitely a great design for an Enterprise refit, but I'd keep the nacelle pylons curved. TOS Enterprise to Enterprise-A was straight to straight so why wouldn't the JJ-prise to JJ-prise-Refit be curved to curved? Seems the curves are directly related to the ship designs for the "new" universe as a whole in regards to the Constitution anyways.

Just my 2 cents.  :D
