I remember a TOS Excelsior was attempted a few times, but never released.  I hope this one gets released.  It's beautifully done.

Looks great so far, though my nerdbrain strains to make sense of an older version of what was a completely new ship in STIII. I'll settle for artistic license, since that is a work of art.

Saucer looks a little too greebled for the TOS style, mind you.

Wow....an Excelsior TOS-ified.  :P

All I can suggest is a new saucer and maybe shortening the back lip of the drive section, as neither fit the era. Perhaps take the connie saucer design into account, and enlarge the top bulge so that it reaches out to where the bulge does on the original excelsior saucer. The neck is what would be the trickiest to work, though might I suggest a small inspiration from the ENT era and using two connie necks, with a secondary deflector or torpedo pod lodged between them? The resulting look would be radical, but could work given that after the connie refit, the necks of ships changed just as radically.

Mesh looks great though.

Well thanks for the comments i tried using a twin connie neck and it really didnt look good at all :( i'm trying to think of somthing else at present but i wasnt sure how i could incorperate it all to work, but so far im happy, i've started to texture the saucer just to see how she would look and im quite happy so far, done some work on the main hull and added pylons instead of where the excel goes at a 90degree and then stright up i've gone for 45 and then more of an angle just to give it a diffrent style, what did u guys mean with the saucer? that screams excel so im thinking the GREAT EXPERIMENT OF THE GREAT EXPERIMENT!!! lol

That'd be because it is the Excelsior saucer. I mean what if you used a connie saucer and mixed it up a little so it resembles the Excel saucer while strongly holding onto the TOS feel. Right now it doesn't really fit the nacelles or the timeline.

Here's an idea. (Please forgive me I'm no modeler, yet.) Fatten the TOS style neck, and just extend the command buldge to the back and end it in a TOS style impulse deck.

Not so sure on that one, his approach so far is more impressive to me in it's own right.

it bugs me how people seem to think that "TOS style" means everything must be made from kitbashed '66 era 1701 components. Don't get me wrong, there're some beautiful creations out there from that mindset, but think of the Oberth - it didn't look like other the Miranda and the Connie, and the Excelsior didn't look like them either.

Some inventive variation on the styles of the day would be interesting, just look at the extreme diversity of TNG era designs!

Ok, rant over.

Prime, I'm not saying that to bash anything you've done here. Obviously, you are an exemplar of creativity - one need only look at your TOScelsior to see that. I'm just getting those thoughts off my chest here. Sorry if they are off topic or irrelevant.

I'm not lashing out at you either, Kirk. It just seems to be an oversight that a lot of people make.

Bren, I don't think what Kirk is suggesting is supposed to look like a stretched out TOS Connie.  He simply used that model to shows the proportions.  He said he isn't a great modeler, so I doubt that he's going to actually recreate what Prime has done.  What Kirk said is more relevant than the pictures.  For example, Phoenix's TOS Excelsior's saucer looks just like the TMP Excelsior, except that it has a TOS bridge.  What Kirk is suggesting is to make it look more like what he put in the picture.  However, he is not suggesting to use a Connie saucer and engineering hull.

Frankly, if anything is an oversight, I think you misinterpreted what Kirk was suggesting.

its good but as bren pointed out it would be just a simple connie bash i wanted it to scream excelsior, which given way to a short story i've writen that will make more sense. i'm having prob's with shuttle bay area at the moment but other than that she's coming on well thanks

My model doesn't do my idea justice. Is this a bit better? It still maintains the excel feel while looking TOS with the smooth(ish, I tried) saucer dome and bulge flowing into a connie-like impulse deck.

lol its mine primes just giveing me examples lol

I don't know why I said Prime lol.  I meant Phoenix.  I guess I said Prime because both your names start with a P and I got a little jumbled. Time to edit that so it actually makes sense.

EDIT- Oh, Bren said Prime too, when I think he meant Phoenix.  Maybe that's why I got messed up.

EDIT^2- Ok, what Kirk was saying was not a Connie kitbash, he just used the Connie as an example.  That's why he used an actual Excelsior model this time around.

EDIT CUBED- Yes Kirk, great idea.

The Connie bulge on top would look too kitbashed IMO.

Oh god, I know. I'm such an ass. Sorry about that. I realised it a moment ago when I opened the thread. I wrote that in the middle of an all nighter designed to correct my sleeping patterns. My mind was not at it's clearest. Please accept my apologies, Fett, Kirk and Prime.. and anyone else I mixed up.

I do see what you were suggesting, Kirk, and like I said, I wasn't bashing you. I just failed to phrase the malformed thoughts in my head very well. I'm very embarrassed now. Sorry everyone!
