BC rping?
« on: June 14, 2009, 10:39:31 AM »
Do a lot of people here "role-play" with bridge commander, such as downloading ships from voyager and renacting battles with them, and pretending to be Janeway/Sisko/Picard like I do? I really can't wait for the delta quadrant pack for this reason, also im a huge fan of the Titan books so when the Luna class I saw someone developing awhile ago comes out, I would take the mantle of Captain Riker! =p

You'll find most videogame based RP in terms of Star Trek is on Elite Force. Huge rp community there and a huge mod to make it easier (Adding emotes and such)

yet that doesn't mean that RPing doesn't occur among BC players.  *cough* I'm one of them, I have to admit.

I know that at times when I'm bored, I be the Borg and slowly eradicate the Alpha Quadrant...civilisation by civilisation. Not sure if it counts but I imagine the crews of the ships as they slow get destroyed...

Nah, Replicators are too much like The Borg.. single track mind can not adapt to changing situations, hence why they both got their collective arses kicked.

in addition, those huge honking space versions of fuzzy dices prevent me from seeing the pwnage it dishes out.

Going back to the topic of the thread...

A couple of years ago (pre KM, or early days of KM) a group posted screenshots of them playing BC, using a series of keyboards all hooked up to an USB port acting as one. Meaning one person was doing the things of a Tactical Officer, another was Helm, etc, etc, there was even someone playing as captain.
I still can't read peoples minds, nor can I read peoples computers, even worse, I can't combine the two to read what is going wrong with your BC install...

Don't all people do that with their games?

I don't re-enact or pretend to be a specific character (it feels dirty), but any game that doesn't have a story of its own is part of a greater story-in-my-mind.

In Klingon Academy for example I had a Romulan campaign going on. With some missions including the destruction of freighters that had an effect in "later missions" because they were destroying "supply routes".

...I am a bit imaginative.

i remember that!
(and i also remember some people at BCU were being rude about them, making jokes, and laughing at them...  and then one of them joined up at BCU and all those who were making jokes looked really bad...)
they had the room they played in all decked out, looking like an actual bridge; complete with consoles, and a projection screen...  it was a pretty cool thing, i wish somehow the screenshot could be rescued and reposted here...

Indeed, no doubt Google has some instance of it, but good luck finding it.

I also remember people asking how it was done and if they could get their hands on the code....
that brought down lots of issues as I seem to recall that could only be done through a modified exe.
Canon is what people argue exists on ships that don't exist.

No, it was simply a couple of USB Keyboards and a hub, and then some carefull keymapping.

Erm, understatement of the century! Remember Spam Wars on KA.com? I do, that was unbe-freaking-lievable!

I also remember those dudes with the bridge in their attic. They were German, as I recall. I remember thinking "Only in Germany", but at the same time being horribly horribly jealous.

They had a website too.

Klingon Academy now works on XP/Vista/Win 7 thanks to one dude's patches, click here for details. I highly recommend it!

Yeah, I do it. Only for me, I use Game Commander 2 to issue voice commands with custom keystrokes enabling me to say

"helm" ( F1 keystroke),
"set a course" (down arrow keystroke a number of times)
"for Romulas" (depending on where it is on the list, the down arrow keystroke is pressed again)
"engage" (return/enter keystroke pressed)"

"activate self destruct...alpha, five, gamma, six, theta" (Ctrl + D)

You get the picture, and I do imagine myself as captains....NX-01, Archer - Galaxy and Sovereign - Picard, Defiant - Sisko, Intrepid - Janeway, Connie is a difficult one depending on TOS or JJverse...and any other ship is under my command. lol

Oh man, I remember that!  I don't recall one of them joining BCU, however.

Anyway, I don't role play, I just get into the game--I think like a captain would in a tactical situation.

Me too.

I think there's just no point in imagining you as anything but the captain in a game which purpose was to put you in the captain's chair.
