What's the latest?
« on: September 01, 2009, 05:47:44 AM »
Hey folks, I just figured I'd poke my head in here. It's been a long time since I checked up on the BC modding community!

Any names I'd recognize out there? What's the latest modding news??

I see over on bcfiles that folks are still releasing mods by the truckload! And people are still utilizing my old MVAM! Very cool.

Hey sneaker, good to see you, BCC is moven right along, lots of mods and lots of great modders, Galaxy Charts is the latest BIG DL i installed to my modded BC, and another MVAM capable ship, the USS Griffin, by hobbs got added to my 23 MVAM ships list, that makes 24, other then that, im waitin with great anticipation for the Delta Quadrant Pack as i suspect is every1 else as well. Even though MVAM is a lil older now, its still a kick*** mod, have a delayed cookie!!

oh my goodness - a legend is in the house!!

heya sneaker!  long time no see!!   welcome to bcc!

please take off your jacket and stay a while - the bar is right over there, and of course free drinks to the oldschoolers!  :D
there are quite a few of us still hanging around, after all these years since back when BCU was in its prime...
BC has come a long way since then, and even in the last few years...
also - check out Star Trek Excalibur - a completely new game, on a new engine (Nano's), which will be free for everyone to download and enjoy (and will be much easier for modding than BC), being built by some of BC's elite-most modders for all fans of Trek :)

sneaker is...alive?!?

 :D :D :D

*Someone grab some rope. We need to keep him here! ha ha ha!*

Yeah, loads of big mods have come out the last few years. I've kinda taken on the role as a 'main beta tester' (meaning I get to test alot of stuff). Been doing it for a while. Theres loads of great stuff around the corner which I can't tell you about though, but I'm sure you'll find out about eventually. Hope to see more of you here sneaker.
Can't wait for 2014 to start.

Hey guys!

@Worf359Alpha: You're a hardpointer, eh? I always hated that job - I used to get Executioner and Elminster to do those for me, thankfully.

But 24 Mvam ships?? Wow. Y'know, I've always considered MVAM 2.0 to be fairly clunky, due to the method of setting up the separation points, and the text-based instructions. It was always my plan to set up a graphical step-by-step program.

Quick trivia: did you know Raven of BCU bought the MVAM code? It's true! He was planning on using it for BC 2.0, or whatever he was calling it at the time, which I suppose never materialized.

@JimmyB: I definitely recognize you! How are you doing? It's been a while!

Excalibur? Amaral always did love that ship. I'll check out their forums, but whenever someone mentions a community-driven game on the horizon, I always expect the worst. Though I absolutely cannot say any ill about these folks. After all, they made the Centaur for me, after I pestered them for months about it, and made them do it accurately. It's the only one I know of that's true to the show, greebles and all. It's my favourite ship, that's why you see it in a lot of my mod preview screenshots up on bcfiles.

@Billz: I had a couple folks who were my dedicated beta testers. They were a great bunch of people, who really wanted to get the best out of a mod. It's a good occupation to be in!

And it's also nice to see that there are secretive projects still on the horizon :)

@Nebula: I also definitely recognize you! How are you doing??

@1DeadlySAMURAI: And I remember you. Still using hot gals in your avatar I see!

As for me, I got out of BC modding because of schooling and such. I'll be graduating from Computer Science (big shocker, right?) in February, as I just have one course left to finish up. I was pretty big into Matrix Online - I was a community moderator for the Warner Bros. and Sony MxO forums for about 4 years. I hadn't played the game for about a year before it shut down, though I did log-in on for the end.

Professionally, I've continued programming. I worked for a research centre for quite a few years, programming windows mobile devices with applications used to measure hearing loss in kids. And I recently took on a summer job at the University which followed my passion a bit - Mars research! We took images from the rovers, and compared them to images taken in the Canadian arctic, in order to look more closely at the signs of water. It was very cool for me, since I love most things Space :)

I'm looking forward to The Old Republic, but not STO, oddly enough. Frankly, I'm quite disappointed with Star Trek Online after Perpetual dropped it. The footage I saw from Cryptic, though in Alpha stage, looked extremely uninteresting, most notably ground combat. But, hopefully they'll improve it.

Now how am I doing?? Pretty well I guess... got a few years left in college for my Comp Sci Degree.
(grumbles I hate Physics grumbles.) Outside of that well I've been working on KM 1.1 for BC along with Defiant and a few others.

I'm actually looking forward to STO. Things I've heard and recently seen got me a little more hopeful.

Yeah Sneaker, i love HPing, I reballenced my intire fleet, took me about a year to do it, and i used your MVAM script in lots of imaginitive ways beyond just the ships that seperate, like making missile cruisers using 1 ship with standard armament, then the same ship rehardpointed for long range missile attacks, ships with "Holograpic" attack ships systems, ships with simular hardpoints with stonger sheilds using MVAM to simulate diverting max power to shields, and a few others, i dont remember ever being so happy as when i Dl'ed your Prommie and took her into a furball. Glad your back, hope you stick around a lil bit1, your the :king

Sorry to say, but the chances of that are slim to none. However, it's possible that I'd continue modding a future Star Trek game. In fact, I was looking into Legacy in the hopes that it would be a nice, moddable game, but alas, I was not impressed with that one, even though I love the company that published it: Bethesda. I'm a huge Elder Scrolls and Fallout fan.

I'll sssay! WERCOME BACK, SNEAKERS! Blarrrgh! *stumbles around drunkenly posting rubbish*

Seriously, it's good to see your screenname again! I always find it nice to see a legend return to the community. How do you like BCC? It still feels kinda new to me, even though it's been about 2 years or more since it opened and supplanted BCU.

I have a confession to make: I always preferred the look of your plasma leaks to the NanoFX 2.0b plasma leaks...

It's great to hear how well you're doing in your life. Sometimes one forgets that people here, legends or not, are more than just a screen name and an avatar. Welcome back ;)
