My Oberth
« on: September 27, 2009, 02:14:59 PM »
Ok we know Oberths in TMP had numbers in the 500's even if these are hull lot numbers, that class is still older, than a connie anyway, so im making this, rear shuttlebay is getting reworked and more work on the saucer later, so dont sweat that yet please. But here is the first render of my work thus far

The secondary hull is huuuuuuuuuuuuuuge.

Apart from that, intrigueing. :)

here is another update the impulse engines.

Also I was thinking given that the NCC numbers are in the 500's this puts them around 2180-2200 when they first showed up. So I would assume around the mid 2260's they all got refit. And most likly another refit around the 2230's id suppose. But given this I would assume the Oberth wasnt always a science ship, but merly refit later to fill that role. So im gonna make this one more of a destroyer than a science ship, representing what I think it would have done when it was new. Considering its the size of a Daedalus class anyway. I hate the engy hull gonna rebuild it totally

you need to look at the smoothing groups on that first model, the second looks better.

Also, your sense of proportion lacks to say the least. The struts are too thin, the secondary hull is oversized, and the shape of the saucer wouldn't allow more than a (or even a full) single deck.

*eyebrow* "Kzinti borders"  well, well, that's the first time in a LONG time I've heard anyone mention the Kzinti in association with trek (i did incorporate them into my Next G novel :P )

I think I got one of the names for you for the Ranger class.  "Walker"

I think we can rely on Candle to produce all the Post Enterprise/Pre TOS era, which is as unexplored as the Post TMP/Pre Next G era

its honestly my favorite era. Things where simple, Klingons where bad, you could sleep with the women, and you didnt have 20 billion directives yet on what you can and cant do. Plus despite what everyone thinks, the nacelles from this era are sexy

A smoothing group is what stops your model looking like it was modeled out of clay, it allows to show smooth areas, and sharp running lines concurently. You should look up some tutorials for it, because looking at that last ship, it definately needs the groups sorting.
