Texturing Transparency
« on: October 02, 2009, 08:38:07 AM »
I've hunted down this topic across the forums, I found one useful thread but it didn't work for me.

I want to add a model part that is transparent. I know it's possible.

A previous thread mentioned how to add the transparency in 3DS Max. This is the program I'm using, but every time I export the model, the textured transparency just doesn't work, remaining solid.

Can anyone help with this?

I think it needs to be done through Max 3.

Will it work if you flip the normals  on the faces of the section you want to be transparent?

Damn, I don't have Max 3, might have to find someone who does have it if that's the case.

Yes, flipping the normals kind of works. It just means that it appears as if nothings there though.

However I'm trying to make a "Shield Bubble", so when I flip the normals the side facing is invisible, and then the view is blocked by the opposite side.

I have has success in Attaching an Alpha Property to the model using "NifSkope", however the bubble is transparent but the ship inside the bubble isn't visible, all I see through the shield is stars.

You must be doing it wrong if nifskope if you can't see atlantis. Ive done it plenty of times using nifskope and havent had this problem.

Okay that is more than possible, how are you supposed to do it...

All I've managed to figure out is that you right click on the appropriate node and "AttachAlphaProperty"
