I don't know much about 3Ding, I Hardpoint ships and get to test some amazing items, but you might want to check what is called 'node hierarchy', I do know if that is not right the ship will Not appear right in MPE, but it may appear right in-game, however if it is Not right in Mpe [he was correct, impossible to HP through MPE]

that explains the appearance of the Scorpion class I was asked to repair, which would only work for the original author.  in the MPE, all I got was a single rectangle.

I am starting to make NXclass refit
It is still not ready. The saucer is ready at about 60%.

Some smooth on 3ds max and is great. Still I have much work on it.

I can't smooth my NX TOS refit on 3ds max. When I select it and when I select smooth the NX is getting more ugly :( If someone have time or likes 3D modeling can smooth the model. I will be very happy after that  ;)

Why did you not post this in the modding section? This obviously requires a second thread.

Good start though.
All hail the messiah!

Hello guys. I have some problems with modeling. I draw very detailed model of NX refit on Rhino 3D but I can't smooth it. If someone can help me with the ship because on Autodeks when select the ship and select to smooth it and than the ship looks awful. I attached the model with the post. And as I see in 3ds max the model has many backfaces I think :( Now I am trying to learn the material editor in 3ds max, because I want to make cool DX9 renders. Sorry for my stupid topic.

no promeses, i'll see what i can do a bit later. So far you model looks real good. Is the max file you posted here compleat? Cuse it's in my experence that you should smooth it out when it's done jest befor UV maping.

I haven't any textures for it and remains to me to make the warp coils and the pylons. Then I will make textures and I will make the the UV but on Rhino is very difficult. See for yourself

I jest got home from work, i did check it before i left and your model looked good but half your polys were facing the wrong way. I'll flip them for you and do a light smooth and upload the file. What i meant was finish the model first, nacellas, saucer and wings then smooth it, then UV map then texture it. It was my experience that some times if you smooth a part, then build another part and smooth the hole thing again the original part may not look right.

remove the deflector from the aft section...it wouldnt work...

deflector dishes shoot out a field that protects the ship from space particles at warm...like microasteroids and sucj. so when its begind the ship band being blocked by it it wouldnt work...

i know the steamrunner has it too but that deflector is visible form the front under the ship ;)

otherwise lookin great ;)

Thanks very much for the help.  The flue vakantion is over and the school begins (again) and I will be not able (or maybe) to make the ship. If I cant work on the ship I am allowing any person who want to finish the ship.

No problem buddy. I shire your thoughts of the people here. I to am still new here. I've learned every thing i know from many hours of reading tuts and asking guestions so i know where your comeing from. I'm happy you like it. I to would drop the dish, or add an akira style dish under the saucer it's self, my opinion. But good luck and i'm looking forward to you progress.

She was sitting at 7000 + when i sent her back. Once the nacella are done and the her final check is looked over it will bo 10000+. But i did knotice that there a lot of vertices groped together and not conetected. Once that is fixed as she stands she could drop 1000 i think

Here are and the pylons :) . And I played Star Trek D-A-C. Its fun game but not soo interesting. The phasers are automaticly fired and you fire the torpedoes. The interesting is that the torpedos are unlimited and are fired from anywhere :funny

I totaly confused myself with the naccels. I fliped what i can but I think there is still backfaces. If someone want to help me with the backfaces I attached the max file with the post. If I put the detailed phasers the ship will be about 40-50 000 polys because the Yorktown class originally was about 260KBs, but when I put the phasers on USS Washington the ship came to 870KBs :funny I changed and the deflector position. I am not rendering because Rhino 3D is showing very shiny the 3ds max surfaces.
