Deadthunder's Firefox class.
« on: December 04, 2009, 10:04:41 AM »
after a major mess getting started, I've completed part of the skin for Deathunder's firefox.  I've already recommended that he change the name for copyright reasons (apparently, Mozilla is as lawyer happy as Disney, Paramount, and Warner Brothers).

since the model is basically a kitbash of a stock nebula, it uses the model forms of the stock nebula/Galaxy.  I tested the finished skins on the Nebula stocker.

picture to come shortly.

Funny, I didn't know they invented the term "Firefox". Fire-Fox should be fine, I would assume.

Do some googling about mythological foxes of fire, there's bound to be some fable about one, with a name. ;)

I got a new name, i;m thinking Phoenix class, not named after the nebula class ship, but just for the heck of it and because a phenox is a bird of fire. also like the gold plating. and i've been working in mpe, but i just can't get it to work

Why not Phoenix of steel or Firesteel?

The colours on the Nacelles are actually quite cool! Very regal.

colours are always a bit duller once they're on the model.  the windows are gonna be a B *censored*.

DT:  GOLD plating?  if that was gold, it'd be blindingly bright yellow. (i tried that on one of my own, it looked like crap)  the actual colours are shades of Brown and Cream (pic attached of nacelle unwrap)

Vladko:  Firesteel would work better on a destroyer or battleship, not on this one

I'm gonna have trouble with an "aztec" for this ship.  my in program textures are not worthy, and spending 5-6 hours on ONE design is really not my thing.

They didn't. I suppose they're going to sue Craig Thomas (author of the novel "Firefox" about stealing an advanced Soviet jet, written in 1977) or Clint Eastwood (who starred in and directed the movie based on the novel, released in 1982) as well, even though clearly the name has been in use well before Mozilla even existed? Or how about "Thunderbird", the name they use for their E-mail client? Are they gonna sue Ford Motors now?

Right, that's enough ranting. :)

giants do not sue giants, they just grumble and threaten to send out the lawyers.  now, if it was a private person, THEN they'd sue for copyright infringement.  and anybody that isn't a corporation is a "private person".  besides, I think ford said sayonara to the thunderbird nameplate for the most part after the revival disaster in the early 2000's

I'm still working with the colour theme I established with the nacelles, so I hope nothing clashes TOO badly.

looks like I forgot a major piece of the firefox model.  i'd forgotten to unwrap the actuall nacelle pylons.  that's been rectified.  the ship is proceeding slowly, but I've created a solution for the windows.  now I think I shoved too many in :P

Will the ship(s) be given a complete texture overhaul? P81 easy-bake oven textures are not much to look at these days.

he's got a point.  I could tell they were knox textures by the glow overlay on the nacelles.  that was the most annoying thing in the world too edit out!  looks like you'll have to leave the ones I was working on as an NX type.
