That looks awesome
Canon is what people argue exists on ships that don't exist.

Hi it's made of PLA, not sure how long it took as I had to get some one else to print it out for, but I order it & 5 days later I had it, just saving up for my own printer ?1500 need then I be happy plus the model cost me ?80, I only had this ship done so I could see what a 3D printer could do.
When I do get my print I be doing a big kit of my Nelson design, still reworking the ship now,
Then I might be able to offer that service on here, fingers crossed

hi all been working hard on life lol but started to get the printing side of my hobby sorted out.
Right heres the start of the 1st ship i am planning to print off, plus the model with be in Nif format but wont have texture so the model will be able to any one who want to hardpoint it and texture it.
The 3d print ship will have a inside i could leave this in the model for bc but the poly count might be a bit high

plus can some one help me i cant seem to post pic the link to insert image is not working for me
any way here the link to the pic  http://fav.me/d7yrl1a

cinqnic,

Very interesting.  Of course it reminds me of Prometheus (Except in a good) way.
You have good begining here because the structures you've made make a great amount of sense.  But I caution to make a brilliant ship (as you seem to be on the path to) you must think about purpose and design and what this ship will do mission-wise.  Combat, defense, support or exploration.

The Common Pitfalls.

-Too many windows

Galaxy championed that trend but it was Sovereign that made windows on a combat ship popular.
Galaxy was made for dignitaries, colonist as well as for  defense.
The more windows the less armor you have.

-Avoid excessive tapering of the design especially the warp engines (Sovereign Class)
The engines specially house mechanisms that need a specific shape and symmetry.
Of course some styling is part of the fun but remember what goes on the inside.
(If you're designing something completely new it's no-holds barred but there is design trend in trek to guide us)

-Saucer Separations

...are complicated.  What separates must be reintegrated and reintegration's may have to be aborted.
The neck on the Galaxy was positioned over the nacelles to make that abort of the reintegration possible without a possible collision.
There are other ways to do it and it's something I missed on my design.

-Also:
attempt to avoid separation planes on top of cargo bays and flight decks (Sovereign Prometheus)
docking points need rigidness and big empty spaces like shuttle bays are flexible

-Impulse Engines:

It matter where you put them.
Galaxy, Reliant and Constitution were slow lumbering ships because the impulse engines were small and dead in the center.
Off center thrust leads to more maneuverability left and right.

-Remember too that thrust is most efficient when applied against the ship's center of gravity.
Placing the impulse engines too high or low will reduce speed and increase fuel consumption.

those ships weren't exactly designed by mechanical, architectural, or airframe/spaceframe engineers, you know.  they were designed by ARTISTS, so of course stuff's not gonna be right.

as for the windows thing, did you forget that these ships use energy shielding many meters from the hull?  it has to penetrate that first to get to the hull, and those windows aren't exactly several foot thick polymers, they're usually transparent metal.

it's like with almost all fantasy and Sci-Fi.  I quote Bellisario's maxim; Don't look too closely into this.

Rick Sternbach went to University of Connecticut for Art
Andrew Probert (designer of the Constitution refit and the Galaxy) was in the Navy and went to school as an art major.

The current Artistic guard are CGI artist, where any design is possible.
The old guard had to make real miniatures that had real limitations of materials.
Design in art creates more realism.

I think Saq was referring to the Adder, the one you can physically see on this page.
