Husnock Warship
« on: February 22, 2010, 10:50:33 AM »
This is a model I built in 3ds Max 2010 of the Husnock warship as featured in the TNG episode "The Survivors". It has 10,290 polys and uses two 2048 targas for textures. If anyone is interested in porting this model into BC I would greatly appreciate it. :)

oooh yeah BC is definitely in need of a new Husnock model... the old one is showing its age.

nice balance between lowish polys and high textures.  how did you get a clear enough idea of the design, though?  Next G eps are starting to show the fact that they're over 20 years old in their fuzzy and vague appearance.

Sorry but according to a post in that link, it isn't....

You are mixing up starships. This is not the ?hammerhead?-ship which was originally the Husnock ship, then the Jovis and after that appeared as numerous other ships on TNG, DS9, VOY and ENT. The Bajoran incarnation of the hammerhead looks very similar to the design featured above, but they are two different ships. Knowing Doug, I guess we?ll see the CG version of the Bajoran hammerhead soon?

anyway back to someone porting this beauty!!

Thanks for all the compliments, guys! :)

@deadthunder2_0: I appreciate your interest but I already got an offer. Thanks!

@King Class Scout: Lots of pausing and rewinding of the episode was necessary. The ship is seen from lots of different angles (they were justifiably proud of their "ship of the week") so that's where I got most of my information. There are also some great closeup shots of the Jovis which is indeed a redress of this model (it appears again in an episode of Voyager, but I forget which one), but I had to be careful about that as a lot of stuff was changed. I also had to make up much of the detail because you're right, it is from a TV episode that's nearly 21 years old so not only was it fuzzy, it also lacked a lot of detail in the first place.

@WileyCoyote: About the NX-Excelsior, limey98 is working on it, but I screwed up the texture mapping (I should have used just one material slot per texture, but I didn't), so I think it needs to be remapped. I might have to do the same to this model which would be much easier since it's much less complex. But I want to finish my Executor model first so it may be awhile.:(

BUMP!  :angel

A lot of progress has been made on this ship. Teleguy has been great and has developed a hardpoint which I'm trying to tweak. I have a question for the community: If this ship were to be canon, it would pretty much be a God ship. It's carrying "enough firepower to pulverize a planet" and, "its defenses are apparently able to absorb incoming matter and energy." Whether this absorption is infinite and absolute is never really specified, but suffice it to say that this ship is supposed to be far more advanced than a Galaxy. Unfortunately it might also make it not much fun to play with as I quickly tire of using God ships. I'm not really sure which direction to take this in; give the ship a slight advantage to make the battles more thrilling or give it a completely dominating advantage to stay truer to the show and also reinforce the overall badness of the warship. What do you think?

Seems like if it were truly that awesome then they wouldn't be afraid of anyone in the Galaxy.  It must have some kind of weakness.  "enough firepower to pulverize a planet" isn't that god like anyways.  According to TOS the Enterprise had the ability to destroy the entire surface of a Planet also and that's with TOS tech.

I would suggest making it strong/weak enough for Epic Battles but don't make her ridiculously invincible.  That's my two cents anyway :)

strong shields, weak hull , or vice versa, some major weakness

That's what I think. Besides, I'll bet fighting this ship with an Excalibur or Eclipse class would definitely give it a run for its money.

Well I think the ship should be as powerful as a galaxy cause remember the being said they sent a bunch of them to the planet and the one the Enterprise D fought was made by a Beings imagination to force the enterprise back, so naturally it would be invincible.

Well, I had thought about maybe putting the ships warpcore into that round object at the back so it could be easily destroyed from behind.
