Slipstream - v4
« on: February 27, 2010, 10:20:52 PM »
Yes, Slipstream v3 has now been scrapped.  I have been trying out something new...a different way for the textures to be displayed ingame.  This one is more animated and looks much better.  This is not final, your input is welcome.

Having the texture move like that instead of just spinning around is not only canon but will also not make me nauseous when I use slipstream. Excellent work.

You fixed it! :funny  Now this is slipstream as it was supposed to be! I think just replacing that spinning sub space meat grinder with this one that actually looks like I'm moving forward is enough for a whole version in itself(but that's just me  :P )in any case great work on this, well done cordanilus.

This is great, Deffently a cookie. That being said, i never liked the canon on very much. Here is a couple ideas to consider. How about a very slight turn? And how about doing a hypred of the canon one and the new movie warp, witch to me seems more of a slip stream then warp. Jest an idea.

The other problem I found with the slipstream was that it always looked too wide. I know thats to compensate for the many varied sizes of ships in BC but it always set me off a little. Is it possible to create 3 different sizes and depending on the slipstream property in a hardpoint, it only goes to whatever sized slipstream model?

@Dalek - I'm sure it's possible, I don't have the capability to create such a script...I would have to ask Sovvie for that.  Now, I wish I had the time to stay in Sovvie's scripting school for beginners.  lol  *Kicks oneself in the rear*

@ bankruptstudios - A slight turn can be done, there are 2 models in slipstream...each can be adjusted to spin in either direction.  Also, what you see in the video...is actually the hyperdrive.  lol  And since Hyperdrive is Slipstream, it is easily transferred to Slipstream.  Textures are in developement for the Hyperdrive.

In the video, the ship is moving forward...but ingame, I think it's stationary when you enter the scene.

Wow, I had totally forgot about this thread. Glad to see it's still being worked on. The first new texture version, looked like a pretty good concept for a wormhole effect.

I finally picked up slipstream for use with Stargate ships.  this is a definite improvement.  it also reminded me hat my scratch species uses a combination of the two propulsion systems (i made my own HS texture for myself)

i have a couple suggestions.
every other Sci Fi series that uses FTL travel uses the hyperspace one, and they all have their own hyperspace textures.  is there a way to rig slipstream to use a certain texture for certian ships?

and, since there is now a Spaceballs ship, courtesy of Cyanide, don't forget the Ludicrous Speed plad!

@ King Class Scout - Lol  I like that, ludicrous speed.  It may make my vertigo go into hyper speeds but I'm going to do it anyway.  he he he
As for the different textures per ship.  I haven't checked out the plugin in a while, so I cannot say.  That would be nice though.

@ Serverandenforcer - I know the feeling. :P  But, is the setting of the original slipstream.  Slipstream V4 is currently, just a new model and textures.

Just to say - V3 was going to consist of 3 models (no animated textures)...looked nice but V4 gives that "moving forward" feeling.  I may add an adjustment to the slipstream to slow or stop the spinning.  Also, am trying out some new textures using a partial screencap from voyager.  Am looking for a hyperspace texture (stargate) if I can get a clean screencap of one.
