TMP Challenger/Constellation Class & Excelsior
« on: March 30, 2010, 09:25:10 AM »
A dropped design I've always admired, bashed from an old design I've always loved. It featured in one of the comics though I couldn't tell you which exactly offhand.

Either way, I figured I'd show some progress. I'm currently unsure whether I should use the typical TMP nacelles or the Endeavour style ones that seem to be on every Stargazer blueprint (Which don't match with the studio model, apparently.)

EDIT: (Second render wasn't working. Also, have I mentioned LW9 is awesome?)

I'm glad you think so... The Constellation Class strikes me as a very adaptable design, with how the nacelles are attached to the saucer, freeing up the lower area.

Has anyone got any suggestions as to nacelles?

Love the design, not sure what you should do with the nacelles. But I'm sure you'll think of something.

I've got that comic in some anthology book thingamybob here somewhere..

I DEFINATELY remember that ship though. Wasn't it Riker's ex bird in charge of it when they get attacked and the ent-d has to come to the rescue? USS Marco Polo I think.. not 100% though
I miss :bigdance:

An update on the Constellation version. ...Y'know, it strikes me that the saucer could use some more polys. Damn those TMP nacelles are irritating to model.  :roll The vents on the front will be done, promise.

I belive a right royal pain in the posterior. I know I've been there, but yours are coming along nicely.

Thank you, Baz. Could you perhaps give me some pointers on how you modelled the front caps of the warp nacelles? It'd really help speed things along as it just baffles me currently (They keep turning out blocky and rough  :banghead: )

Lookin' good.

If you do finish it though, make sure that the scaling is right, Bones's mod that he mentioned is awesome, but much too large in scale.

Holy thread revival. Been optimizing the Constellation model a bit between working on the rear end of Luroks Danube wip. Felt a little inspired, sort of, so I threw together a quick Excelsior model for the heck of it (everyone should go for it at some point imo  :funny), that's only really missing the rear cargo section, shuttlebay, bridge and sensor dome. Still undecided on modelling the weird grill things in or saving the polycount (Currently like 12k tris).
