Ok guys

Ok, mapping on the shuttle is 100% finished.

Please feel free to download the shuttle and play with it...  please texture as you see fit, even if you have not done it before, i have included a UVW texture map that shows the locations of all the faces.

Mapping is mirrored...   so the registries will work lol

Lets see some, Mirror universe types or borg take overs etc too  8)

All i ask is that all releases of this model need to read:

NX-01 Shuttlepod model by MarkyD
UVW Mapping and templates by MarkyD

Thats it, apart from that have some fun guys  8)

I will be making my own too

O.o
Canon is what people argue exists on ships that don't exist.

OOOooooo.  can I bum this for a P-Star shuttle?

the green pelt seam is the colour I also use.  even with Baz's help, I can't figure out how to reassign hides for better unwrapping like you did with the shuttle.  it's driving me crazy.

Thanks fellas..

Mapping is all about practice.. use the standard 3ds max tools and get stuck in...

The best advice i can give is that if you can learn organic mapping you will learn to stitch the uv's in the mapping phase.. then

mapping summat like a ship or shuttle becomes a breeze it really does  ;)

OK... so whilst texturing the shuttle, I decided i wanted more mesh detail and started looking into normal maps etc etc...  (i know BC does not support them)

That got me on a fiddle and i started to play with normal maps etc, as a project on getting me there, I decided to build a tardis, make it nice and accurate, high poly so then i can use certain elements for a bump map later. The actual mesh is low enough for game mind..  me being well. me.. i have spent an hour cleaning her up and its only 900 polies

So i WILL release the full model and use it as a test pice for normal maps and texturing.. BTW  I don't really like Dr Who, the model just suited my needs  :)

Hopefully, after I have done this I can use a simular technique to do the shuttle and the Andorian ship and then future projects like the TNG Atraiu etc.

BC might not support normals and bumps, but remember you can simulate it. Something about baking the shadows in or... I dunno.

Last one for today.. mesh finished at 1700..

Yes mate, its a method known as render baking, where you would bake bumps / normals / glows etc to the hull.. I used it on the gagarin, only very slightly though.  :)

Cool.  Love the Tardis!  But you need a decent interior/bridge to go with it!!  And it would be really cool to see some sort of uber-advanced weapon that sends out a massive shockwave to disable other ships, or something like that.

I have a Dalek mothership model if you want it. Otherwise its brilliant. :yay:

It can easily be retextured to be made into Elevenses...:P

I went off the best image I could find on the net..  the one where Billy Piper is in it..  The only difference I noticed on images of the newer versions of the tardis was the housing on the light above was slightly differently shaped..

Whats the texture difference matey  :)

Turn up the saturation (and make the wood seem less grimy), blacken the windows and make their frames white, add a Saint Johns Ambulance sticker to the right door and voila, Eleventh Doctor TARDIS.

Have they gone backwards in the design scheme... after the tenth?

That one is fugly too.. I reckon I will let someone else do a retexture if they so wish mate  :) you up for converting it  :P

Yes, they have gone backwards. But in my opinion it doesn't look so bad.

But I don't have Max anymore, can't do any converting. :(
