First off, TNG ships in their essence can fulfill multiple roles, something that in TMP couldn't really be done right.

Now, first, you need to - as DJ said - think of what date should this ship appear, the exact role this ship specializes in, what fleet role should she play (these pretty much dictate even the weapon arrangement). After that start on the shape :)

I believe these are the closest thing that comes to orthos.
"To live on as we have is to leave behind joy, and love, and companionship, because we know it to be transitory, of the moment. We know it will turn to ash. Only those whose lives are brief can imagine that love is eternal. You should embrace that remarkable illusion. It may be the greatest gift your race has ever received."

I think as long as you don't Galixcy class this ship, it would be a perfict Late tng era ship. I would love to see that.

On a completely unrelated note, I think that Atraiu (I assume derived from Norse myth) would look right at home with a Trek 11 paintjob.

On a related note: What makes a good TNG ship are fluid lines, wide, powerful looking engines that imply they push the ship through space at breakneck speeds, and a sort of luxury look. I dunno about anyone else, but I got a cruise liner feel from the Galaxy when I first saw it.

I suppose if you were looking for reference material for design and backstory, later Range Rover models would be a great start. They look gorgeous, and barely work! There was always something going wrong with the Ent D, after all.  :funny

Seriously though, I think they convey what I was trying to get across perfectly. They're big, rough'n'tumble off-roaders but they do it in an attractive, luxury style, and are very cozy on the inside. Perhaps without giant highbeam space lights though. :P

Note to self: Download an Akula.

Ok Marky now why didnt u tell me when we last spoke that u already started a thread on our new venture (note to self bring can of whoop a## to next IM convo with Marky)
ANYWAYS we are thinking of using elements from the intrepid and nova classes to augment the new design such as an intrepid saucer shape for the forward section an a hybrid of the nova and intrepid deflector dish. Now those orthos from dalek are stunning and wouldnt mind using that dark texture on this new atraiu class. Atraiu is a Native American word meaning GREAT WARRIOR and i myself am of cherokee decent. Now that being said i think she should be like a heavy battlecruiser set maybe in the DOm war era (marky)? And maybe keep the phaser cannons and the artillary torp launcher which Marky loves and add lateral phaser arrays on the sides and emmitters aft to give her protection. That concludes my 2 cents for the day

dawgy... Yeah quite right

dalek did the conversion for this model fellas, he did a great job on it and its up for DL

Yeah, my thinking is sized between the intrepid and nova, with elements from both but I will follow my design cue from the atraiu to keep it believeable.

prob classification would be escort class like the defiant.. so she has teeth and since the first Atraiu Class was to fend of the Doomsday machine, the second incarnation has been built to fight an equally terrifying threat

The Borg Destroyer! Or, maybe something more catchy? :P I think if you're going with Intrepid and Nova elements, don't make them too obvious that they are. They could be considered the building blocks for how the Intrepid and Nova eventually turn out.

that would require alot of armor perhaps it could be a Dom BB basher even take on one of those planetary defenders of theirs (in small groups)
