Ideas for modders
« on: December 16, 2010, 04:50:41 PM »
I'd like to make this new topic only for ideas that people can use to make mods, i'd like to ask all of the guys from the forum to give an idea here so people can make new things and not making a copy of lots of ships like one make a doomsday machine them a lot of people does a doomsday machine too one's are better, others are worse and i have saw some mods and it looks very repetitive i have a lots of ideas for new bases but i don't have the tools to make the mods and my net is not to good i'd decided to do this topic and i'm here asking all to give an idea.

I have an idea to make that Scavenger base that has in the Star Trek Voyager Elite Force or the Forge base that has in this game too or make one of the ships that has in the game like the Harvester ship it will be a nice bet for people that has the Voyager Elite Force and the STBC and i think that someone could do a torpedo that has the same power as the Breen drain torpedo but with a slight modification when the torpedo hit a subsystem like the impulse or the warp engines they would be completely useless like the breen weapon but when it hits the shield it would only do damage like a photon one...If this torpedo already exists please tell me that this one is going ot be a very cool weapon.

ummmm nah this wont work...

this is why we dont have, and never have had, any ship/mod/bridge/script/etc request threads...

there is a generalized statement which applies to any request made of modders:

"Modders are generally very busy and backlogged with their own projects and as such hardly ever take on requests.  If there is something youd like to have in your install that hasnt been done yet or you think could be better, it is best to learn how to do it on your own end."

over the last 8 years, pretty much all modders have said the same thing which pretty much the above statement covers lol

as far as doing things on your own (as applies to anyone who makes a request) chances are it would happen faster if you did it, and youll learn alot in the process... every modder (including the elite-most) started off brand new at one point, asked alot of questions in the forums, did alot of research, put in alot of time and effort into making their desired component of BC happen, and figured things out as they went...

it doesn't really take much, the SDK, Python and a copy of Milkshape is really all you need to get started.

The SDK http://bridgecommander.filefront.com/file/Bridge_Commander_SDK;2455
The BCUT http://bridgecommander.filefront.com/file/Bridge_Commander_Universal_Tool;115745
Milkshape (get it on your own :P )
GIMP (same as above) :P

all the tools you need for modding (even mid-advanced)

the SDK (Software Developer's Kit) for bridge commander is available on BCFiles, it includes a couple tools that make modding BC easier.  The game's scripts are in the python format, notepad can read them too, but I've found that python's native editor is easier to use.

Its an archive not an exe you don't run it.;) You use winrar or 7zip to get to what you want.
