STO-Auxillerey Craft-The Captain Yacht
« on: March 12, 2011, 04:38:29 PM »
i though it was about time the captains yacht got a revamp, so i managed to get the model designs out of STO, and then had to model it.

this ship needs textureing, which im hopeless at, but this is a good quality model that we could use for BC, im not sure on its polycount though. if anyones interested in helping me with this, im posting the .3ds file in a link.

3ds file http://www.mediafire.com/?2s3iltc245y4pf7

here are some screenshots of the ship.

if i could make the texture i would, but im hopeless and will be untill i get lessons at college, and i dont have the tools to effectivley create textures.

There's plenty of Tutorials for Texturing, no need to wait till you go to collage to learn.

the only thing that survived was the basic structure, meaning a basic shape that i had to reconstruct from, the rest of it i had to reconstruct....took a while, but ingame screenshots help get the basics.....

:nono: also that would then apply to anyone whose done a mod for BC related to STO.....

Unless you created it completely from scratch, it still falls within what I reposted, and is a breach of the EULA.

JEES, just because i wanted a better looking one for BC, i used the resources i had, plus if you check the forums, people have been asking similar stuff to this and the people who made STO are actually saying they will allow it, or that people may use content......just takes some hunting to find....

anyway, im sure most mods here break somethings EULA, it happens, thats why most companies dont bother on things like this.....so its nothing to worry about......

flarespire - your heart is in the right place and it is appreciated...
but if it is in violation of the EULA, we have no choice but to adhere to that...

here is what you do-
take the parts you ripped from the game and rebuild them yourself, much like you repaired this model.
Then you won't have any of the parts of the original and a top notch yacht!

Can you prove that?  I'm actually quite interested now if you can show me that they really don't mind.

thats what i just did........it looks the same, but there are differences like less polygons on the nacells and some of the detail, but it looks around the same...

and to proove that, how come the other people who made STO mods havent bee brough up on this and howcomes everyone using content from other games in other projects havent been contacted buy the companies the content was by?

anyways this doesnt matter, lets just see what we can do with this, you never know what this could potentially achive modwise.

Well making a model from scratch based off of something (such as Vladko's NX-91001) is entirely different from editing an already existing model.

I don't care what other people are doing. Just because other people breach the EULA doesn't mean it's ok to. Now if you can link to a post from one of Cryptics developers, then I don't mind (though I'll leave it up to Jimmy for the final judgement).

Or you can do what deadthunder suggested and rebuild (albeit closely) the STO version so that the final release doesn't actually contain anything from STO.

well ive ended up re-doing the ripped stuff because it had ALOT of errors, but ive managed to keep it looking the same detail wise(THANK YOU MILKSHAPE!!!!) and i think texturing would be easy if i had textures, ive also reuploaded my fixed .3ds inplace of the ripped one, so now it is classed as being based off of instead of a ripp, if anyone is in the slightest bit interested in texturing this little beaut lemme know ok?

and when ive said rebuilt ive done it exactally, by using milkshape and using a schematic to rebuild it to detail, so the mesh doesnt look different but it is, though i have redice the poly's on the fuselage(<-correct spelling?) so its generally the same, but will be easier to texture....

It's perfectly fine, taking an existing model (like STOs Captains Yacht), and making one BASED ON an existing mesh. But 100% of it needs to be modelled BY YOU to be able to be used as your own work, and not someone else's work that you simply "finished".

I am interested thou, where you read that it's perfectly fine to extract and use STO models in other games, as well as how you accomplished this feat.

it been a bi topic on the STO forums, and some of the STO teams have been helping people actually rip ingae content from the game, and theyre fixed it so you can only get the content from the tribble server, the main server does not work with any testure or 3d ripping tools...

and as i said i originally had to reconstruct most of it, so i ended up doing the rest using ingame screenshots, so now there isnt a single polygon of that model that belongs to STO, its all my work, so the faces arent even joint or anything.....and the.3ds is now the one i have completely reconstructed into my own mesh.

now can we please just get on with actually doing something other than argue about it?

You still haven't provided any actual proof on that Cryptic condones such activity. Any forum post that you can link to a dev post regarding this matter?

i know there is one about a model viewer, which allows exporting, but i cant find thelink ATM, anyways lets just put this discussion aside for now and see what we can do wih the mesh, it probably wont even work with BC because it may be over BC's poly limit...
