Edward class - Troop transport/Cargo ship
http://www.cygnus-x1.net/links/lcars/blueprints/vance/Schematic_TMP_Edward.jpg
The only things i am actually having trouble with are the nacelles, nacelles pylons, and the lower sensor array on the saucer. Not sure exactly what technique to use on those.
This is my first model I've done in 3ds Max. Suggestions/Constructive Criticism welcome.
EDIT: The mesh isn't smoothed, yet.
-
As for the nacelles, you're in for the headache of your life...
-
maybe adding it directly to the hull without pylons?

No, no, the shape of the nacelle, it's sooo damn awkward that you'll be taking tranquilizers by the time you're done it right.
-
Ill try, anyway.

Id need a tranquilizer anyhow with the crap week ive had. LOL.

Looking good Grunt. When you're done with this and get it on BC Files, I have a request for you since you're good at TMP Ships. :)
-
Ayyeeee, this'll be a neat one! :)
-
Finally some more turkey-ships.... looking forward to this.
-
yea it's not a bad looking ship thus far. You could also cheat and kitbash with exsisting p81 nacelles. ;)

Depends on what it is. :P

Dang turkeys(lol). :arms:

Ill try, then cheat.
Just added some mesh details, etc.
-
Well it's a TOS Series ship that I've been gawking at. Reminds me of a TOS version of the Springfield Class

http://www.ex-astris-scientia.org/my_ships/hercules.htm Full page of Specs :P

The model looks really good. Are you going to create your own texture or use Moonrakers?
-
Most likely Moonrakers, but since im not at texturing yet. I wont worry about it.
-
Hehe...that's probably a good attitude... Good luck then ;)
-
I can't wait, Gonna send in some POTDs with your ship when it's done :P
-
Ive smoothed a few finished mesh pieces. I've decided to kitbash with Moonraker's nacelles. The textures will look similar to Moonrakers, or parts from Moonrakers.
Opinions?
EDIT: 6933 polys...lol.
-
The center section looks VERY dull. Perhaps add ribbing to the hull like on the J-Class or something just to give it something to do. Would give it more of that cargo/troop ship look, too.

The details on the top, or the fact that the cargo containers make up the ship?
-
maybe you should make a VARIANT (not questioning the original design, like you said) where the nacelles are over the middle of the cargo section, and maybe with 4, two on the top, two on the bottom, like the Constellation Class (http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Constellation_class)? it looks alittle lopsided to me.

Sure, should be an intresting outcome. :)
Note - Since its a variant question, its ok since it doesnt refer to the design(i hope i worded that right, lol)...i was just a tad strict when writing my first post. edit time. :dance

Are those Moonraker's old nacelles?

Are those Moonraker's old nacelles?
Actaully they're the nacelles from his Legacy version...
-
Fix up the nacelle smoothing.

Hey,
Looking good. I LOVE FASA and Fasa inspired shps. You do realize an Edward is essentially a streeeeched
Overfield class. In fact it will be very easy for you to also make a Overfield if you like.
http://home.comcast.net/~ststcsolda/federation/overfield/overfield.html
The main differences are its not as long (maybe a third as long) and the nacelles are mounted on the sides
with the pylons attaching to the top, much like a Klingon D-10, although the mounts are not canted and are mounted amidships
Just a thought...well done!
Qapla!

PS What version of 3dmax are you using?

Thanks.
You do realize an Edward is essentially a streeeeched
Laweya class. In fact it will be very easy for you to also make a Laweya if you like. I'll post or link to some pics.

Actually i didn't. I found the design here: http://www.cygnus-x1.net/links/lcars/vance.php . Thanks for pointing that out, and yes i would like to see the Laweya's schematics.
What version of 3dmax are you using?
I use Max 5, Max 8, and Max 9. I'm using 3ds Max 8 for this model.

The mid hull should be cargo containers :P. Or at least have prominent modules.

OOOHHH!!! I'd love to know how you got them. :-D
-
Grunt just like me and moonraker are on the Ultimate Universe team as moddelers ;)
-
Hey Grunt
Actually I slightly misspoke
>Overfield<
is the one that's just shorter and with amidships downward mounted nacelles as you see here
http://home.comcast.net/~ststcsolda/federation/overfield/overfield.html
>Laweya<
is shorter with a wider truncated "wedge" saucer (like maybe 1/3 of a pie) which extends beyond the edges of the secondary cargo hull unlike Overfield and Edward, and amidships UPward mounted nacelles as you see here
http://home.comcast.net/~ststcsolda/federation/laweya/laweya.html
one idea I have to get an idea of the various lengths quickly and easily is to count the number of top mounted hatch pairs, although the >Edward< pic you have posted doesn't have any....the other thing you can do is measure by saucer or in this case half saucer diameters. A TMP Connie saucer is 131 meters in diameter, so a "half saucer" is 65.5 meters.
Another observation I made is that while on Edward the secondary hull is substantially wider than the primary, on Overfield the secondary is only slightly wider, while on Laweya as mentioned the primary is actually wider than the secondary.
Qapla!

Ahhh, nevermind then.
-
Ive remade the saucer with more poly's. Current poly count is 7,795.

Yup.
kruunch - Noted. 8) :D
EDIT: Gah! Dang mesh errors, :arms:
EDIT 2: Fixed errors, new pic
EDIT 3: I think its ready for texturing. :D

The bottom is so barren of life.

The bottom is so barren of life.
What'd you expect? a lively village of post-industrials? :P
Kidding. But Kirk does have a point. Got any plans for that area? :]

Im rebuliding the saucer and hull...let me see what i can do 8)

Need some help here...
For the Edward Ive made its saucer be partially integrated into the hull, much like the Miranda. The hard part is not have a visible seem on the bottom. :?
I know, i went cut crazy.

Ohhh, darn. Try capping the hole and pro boolean the saucer in?
-
OK, that wireframe is one royal piece of mess. You don't need 3/4 of the circular segments on the saucer, and the "pod" area simply needs a redo.
-
come on man, give him a break he's only a noob (hey grunt/max) just like me, he's going to do things the hard way / messy way as its the first thing that comes to us noob's dont slash like that, tell him HOW he can fix it

I did. And besides, he only needs to ask about specifics.
-
Hey Grunt Old Boy, Any News? How's she coming along?

LOL... You should have read Adonis first comment on one of my training meshes then. He is polite here compared to that.
(Adonis: No hard feelings btw :P )
-
No updates on 'er yet, been either sick or away from home. :argh:
-
Sick? Try a little cordrazine. Not too much though :D
-
I want to get a Miranda look on the Ed, but i can't seem to find a way to do it...help, please?
Basically i want A. to look similar to B. OR worded
Me hopes me worded that right. ^.^
EDIT: OR worded another way: How can i get that mesh of the hull under the saucer to be 'gone'?
-
Boolean tool.

Boolean tool.
I have tried Boolean actually, though i probably did it wrong. :S

Pro Boolean -> Union. That's what I usually do, anyways...
