Well Thought I'd upgrade this project a mod.
-
looks fantastic :D now we need to make V'gers's shield sphere placed in nebula and put V'ger inside the shield :D I wonder if it would be possible ...
-
I was wondering about the weapons. in the film one energy bolt took out a D7 cruiser and as Scotty said the Enterprise would not survive to direct hits?
could be a short battle?
-
I prayed that someone will do this someday. You rock.
Yeah, it could be a short battle indeed, but whatever.
-
maybe if you hailed it it would stop its attack? that way you can fly inside and all that good stuff
-
Neat stuff.
As posted in your other thread...
it is hollow at the moment. But I have no intention of making the interior. That would take ages!!!
...As I've said to many, we BCC folk are a patient people. In actuality, I doubt it would really take THAT long. Long, yes... but not THAT long.
-
You volunteering to do the interior Areries
So you'd have the first chamber the Enterprise is caught in, then all the Spocks walk stuff and then the Voyader 6 "brain" chamber!!

Idk about spockey-boy's space flight deal. Given that one moment, passing through that gate thing would have lead you into the weirdness of the 3d database thing with a floating chick and a crazy posessed throat piercing thing, then the next minute lead you to a [well, another] possessed Ancient Earth satellite hell-bent on throwing a hissy fit and killing off it's parents. I think the room beyond that point could be just about anything you want; doesn't NEED planets and sadistic satellites.
And no, I'm not; I've got my own stuff to deal with [like picking up the Mithra again!]; I'm just saying.
-
Thats what I thought lol. There is way to much to do for the interior so I'll stick to the exterior for now.

Chicken :P.
Looks great tho

As someone who long tried to build V'ger myself, I must tip my hat to you sir. That is impressive :)
-
Well I hope your not planning on merging with it Mr Decker!

Nope, but I did notice something which might need a little tweaking. When I originally went on my quest to model V'ger before the Director's cut. I actually sent some emails to Probert, Mead, Barbee, etc. Anyone who helped design the model. which was helpful but and it lead me to this one picture I found . The opposite end before the sphere is actually cylindrical with the six flat planes surrounding it.

-
You're gonna have to REALLY scale that up. Connie refits are just specs against that behemoth.
-
Well in this pic the connie is circled to give you an idea of scale

I don't know how to desccripe this. That's impressive.
-
wow that thing is massive
-
Herrow thur, lil' guy! *makes cute face & pets the Enterprise* :3
haha, you've done a rather good job so far, keep it up.
-
If it's going to be that big ingame, you're going to want to have at least 2048* textures and sort out those mapping issues.
-
Thanks I'll take that onboard before I do the final textures.
Is there a tutorial or guide anywhere where to this as I don't want a repeat of the JJprise I made.
-
Hope to see this project finished. Will be nice to fly the Excalibur around this thing.
-
FINALLY!!!
I've been wanting this for a long time!
Great work man!
REMEMBER: it is 98km long so it would be great if you could make it that big :D
any idea on when a first version will be released?
Here is a picture of it from the side
(http://www.st-minutiae.com/misc/comparison/comparison_huge.png)
-
this project is still alive, just going to take longer because there is a lot of surface detail to add.
-
Thought I'd play with vger some, i have it working in game under the jjprises hp's
-
I like the model. The textures could use some more work though.
-
is it still as big as in the picture a while ago?
P.S. if you give me the model, i can do the HP for you if you like
-

Not at the moment but will up scale. I'm open to recommended sizes.
P.S. if you give me the model, i can do the HP for you if you like.
That would be cool. I have some ideas of how I want the weapons to function. PM to discuss it.
-
Right I've taken the blue out of the hull since that is reflection from the cloud.
I've up scaled it (pics have my jjprise for scale) let me know your thoughts.
I have added the access portal that the Enterprise entered (please no rusty sherif badge comments please) and will add the first chamber for those who want to dock with it.
-
Wow.
-
Breathtaking!!!
-
Dont know, looks a little like wood. Model is superb, though.
-
Awesome. :D I hope the weapons also look good as well.
-
Nice, so even if we do decide not to dock with it, are you just able to fly inside of it? Lol I think this would sweet on it's own nebula map and everything :P
-
Great work mate, looks much better 8)
-
Awesome. :D I hope the weapons also look good as well.
My intention is no phasers. The white torp (like the ones fired are the klingons and the Enterprise) will knock half of the victims shields down these will be unlimited and only forward firing. Also there will be limited to 5 green (planet killer) torps again forward firing that will wipe a ship out if you are hit.
I know these are powerful but the ship won't be fast and can only fire forwards will a slow reload rate.
-
They really redid the re-coloring on the director's edition of ST:TMP. Just keep with the blue/white lightning-plasma torpedoes and the yellow/white "orbital attack" torpedoes. Also make a new soundpak using sfx from the movie. :)
-
well here is my sudgestion for the hardpoints..
you can make the white torpedoes "disruptors" and the yellow ones as "torpedoes" in the hardpoint file
make the white torpedoes should be able to fire in all directions. the large yellow torpedoes could be foreward and aft only
the white torps should have the strenght to kill a Klingon D-7 in one or two shots. the yellow torps shuld be able to kill anything in one shot. if half a dozen could destroy earth, than one shuld be able to destroy any ship or starbase
i can start making the weapons now if you want, the hardpoint will have to wait untill the model is done
-
sure go ahead, though I feel the other ship won't have a chance unless v'ger only fires forward.
-
We are talking about V"Ger here!
of course the other ship isn't going to have a chance
this ship should be able to take out a fleet of borg cubes without even taking minor dammage? :D
by the way, here is a couple of pictures of the weapons in game so far,
i recorded the sound of? the weapons firing directly from the movie, i will include them in the finished product if you like them
-
looking good, I'm working in the inner chamber. will post pics soon
-
Looks good, but were they not like a blue / white lightning effect? dont remember green at all :?
Loving that your using the sound from the film, this should rock, and im looking forward to seeing what you come up with for the inner chamber Baz. :)
-
they look a bit blueish in game
i can always experiment with making it look more blue
-
here is the interior thus far
-
cookie :)
for attempting this beast...
nice job
-
Will you be texturing the enterence to the next chamber from scratch or keeping that screenshot taken from the movie on the interior section?
It would look better if the enterence to the next chamber was textured from scratch rather then using a screenshot from the DVD.
In either case, it looks awesome.
-
I would also darken the textures down if your going to use the screenies from the film mate, looks great though.. but would look better darker IMO 8)
-
AMAZING
the model work is superb, but i know that texturing this monster will be difficult (especially on the inside).
i think that the outside textures need to be a little bit more green and less brown and the inside a little more green and less blue
i don't know if you have seen this video, but it may help you out :D
-
None DVD ref pics are very rare, I would love pics of the model it self with the lights turned off.
-
here's a couple more pics
-
I've tried to tidy the mesh up but since it was built last year (and my skills were very sparse then) have found it to be problematic.
hence spent a few hours starting again.
-
Here is the new mesh comming along
-
I definitely like how it is turning out :)
-
Same here, looks pretty great.
-
Cookie... keep it coming mate, looks fabbydastic 8)
-
I wonder how high the resolution is on those babies...:D Great work. If I can find something to blow it up, I'll be happy. :P
-
Personally, i think that the front section on the old one looks more like it
the 6 flanges sticking out of the front are supposed to be the same length and size. i think they could also be a little larger
all other parts of the new model look great! :D
-

Better bring some friends too
-
Borg Fleet = Friends?
-
your "Borg Fleet" better consist of 10,000 ships because thats what it will take to bring down this beast! :P
-
Right here is a question that is bugging me.
Which way is forward?
The Enterprise you assume is approuching the most direct root from Earth so when the cloud clears you see the big yellow tube. But in the directors cut the CGI V'ger is shown flying the yellow tube at the rear?
Is this the way it flys? I prefer the pre-directors cut notion of the yellow tube being forward.
Your thoughts?
-
Boy this looks great, baz, some friendly advice, Fix it the way You want, you can not Please everyone, no matter what you do some1 will always find fault, besides this is Your ship.

But in both versions, before the cloud clears, the Enterprise does its flyby along the top of V'Ger, towards the "yellow tube", so if the Enterprise was coming in from the shortest route, either way the "yellow tube" is at the rear.
This is looking really good, keep it up! =)
-

The Enterprise flys away from the yellow end with the ball as it is the first thing you see as Enterprise clears the cloud. V'ger's cloud is over 82 AU's (The Earth is 1.00 ? 0.02 AU from the Sun.) in diameter why would Enterprise waste time flying around back to enter the cloud.
I just thing that maybe the directors cut boys have it reversing into Earth orbit?
-
Also they edited the size of the could to 2AUs I believe.
Anyway baz V'ger looks fabulous. One question, is the entrance and chamber scaled to the Connie or can you fly a Galaxy into it?
-
Judging from the film footage you'll gould fly a SSD in there and still have room either side!
-
The Director's cut does say 2AU because 82AU covers most of the solar system, from what they said.
-
Right after some great ref's from Will Decker I have started again.
-
it would kind'a be nice to fly a ship into and Look t stuff, it will also test your flying skill.

Look back a few pages :)
Baz nice revision mate, looks great 8)
-
I've combined the new aft section with the front of the original model
-

Unless those verts line up 100% im assuming the model is getting messy mate, looks good in the render, but what does the wire look like mate???
-
take a look
-
Spiffy and nice model.
-
Its a separate object? how many parts does this model consist of? or is this a BC thing.. I am working on ONE unified mesh one object, bc allows for multiple objects to be attached and considered one?? :?
-
now that looks NICE!! 8)
i don't see any proportion faults with it at all :D
now all it needs is a bit more detail and some realistic textures
-
At the moment it is about 30 seperate piece, though like my Enterprise I will attach and collapse it to a single mesh. I have already since the version 1 of the model in the game (see page 2) so it converted ok.
Next will be adding some surface and interior detail prior to proper unwraping.
-
just asmall update
-
Nice Work, it's really starting to look good.
-
Awesome.
-
Nice, I wanna fly into it now with the Enterprise lol.
-
The lightning bands on the large fins should be smaller and divided vertically into 3 sections and not connect with the other lightning strips on the other fins. You can confirm with the screenshots. Also, maybe add a little bit of blue to the "lightning" so it has a green/teal look.
-
Starting to really look good!
i still say that the hull could be a tiny bit more blue :)

The mid section still needs the "bridge" build over it yet as with other surface details.
-
finished adding the surface detail
-
That actually looks pretty good. Good work! :D
-
The new mesh holds up well, not specs or glows yet.
As can be seen the dry dock show that vger is the wrong scale. I have already fixed this
-
Great job mate! :)
-
Oh, wow!
That's awesome! 8)
-
Of all the things I never thought I'd see in BC, this was near the top, this and the Narada. Between you and Wiley, we're getting some of the oddities of the ST universe. Good job, eat a cookie. :D
-
Oh that's Nice :D
-
Now all we need is for someone to replace the Cardie station being used as V'ger on the actual map. ;)
-
Wow Baz... for a change I'm not gonna hound you on anything [haha, I mean this in the kindest manner, buddy :)) I REALLY like this!
-
It just get's better and better!
any update on the scale of it yet?
it would be great to see a shot of it next to a federation starbase
-
Not bad.
-
It could hold a crew of tens of thousands. Or a crew of a thousand ten miles tall.
-
Tens of thousands? Hell, this thing has the forward footprint of a large city. and it's about 8 times longer than it is wide. Try hundreds of millions!
-
a couple of sudgestions? :D
looking from the end, you have V'Ger in roughly the shape of the 1st picture...
i have noticed that the "valleys" between the fins running along the ship are too deep compared to the ship in the movie and they shuld look more shallow like in picture 2. (but still with nice curved angles)
one more sudgestion.
the valleys in between the large spikes shouldnt be raised like you have them currently, they are level with the valleys running along the length of the ship.
you can notice this when V'Ger fires it's large plasma torpedoes at Earth in the Directors edition of the movie
-
You could also attach a nebula to the Model so that it follows the ship wherever it goes
-

you can do that?
-

That's news to me... o.O;
-
easy to code,
listener for ship being build,
Create a Nebula big enough to surround the ship,
Attach the nebula to the model using
pShip.AttachObject(pNebula)
you'd be surprised how fun such a small line of code can be.
-
That sounds like an awsome idea :)
-
Ok, so I was wrong about the direction of the craft, I see what you meant now... Though looking at the design, i would say the yellow ball should be at the back...
Anyway, a post on the last page said that the "valleys" between the spines should be level with the forward hull's valleys... I'm not so sure about this. If you look at
http://www.neutralzone.de/database/PreFederation/20thcentury/VGer05.htm
Then it does look like the bottom of the "valley" rises up as it reaches that point.
Anyway, no biggy. This model is looking better every time i see it =D
-
yeah the yellow ball probably should be at the back now that i think about it....
-
I,ve passed the nif over for hard pointing.
-
I've been buisy working on the HP :)
I should be done soon but it's been going slowly because of homework and family events around easter
