Title: Deadthunder's Firefox class.
Post by: King Class Scout on December 04, 2009, 10:04:41 AM
after a major mess getting started, I've completed part of the skin for Deathunder's firefox.  I've already recommended that he change the name for copyright reasons (apparently, Mozilla is as lawyer happy as Disney, Paramount, and Warner Brothers).

since the model is basically a kitbash of a stock nebula, it uses the model forms of the stock nebula/Galaxy.  I tested the finished skins on the Nebula stocker.

picture to come shortly.

Funny, I didn't know they invented the term "Firefox". Fire-Fox should be fine, I would assume.

I bet they thought of that :P

Do some googling about mythological foxes of fire, there's bound to be some fable about one, with a name. ;)

I got a new name, i;m thinking Phoenix class, not named after the nebula class ship, but just for the heck of it and because a phenox is a bird of fire. also like the gold plating. and i've been working in mpe, but i just can't get it to work

Why not Phoenix of steel or Firesteel?

The colours on the Nacelles are actually quite cool! Very regal.

colours are always a bit duller once they're on the model.  the windows are gonna be a B *censored*.

DT:  GOLD plating?  if that was gold, it'd be blindingly bright yellow. (i tried that on one of my own, it looked like crap)  the actual colours are shades of Brown and Cream (pic attached of nacelle unwrap)

Vladko:  Firesteel would work better on a destroyer or battleship, not on this one

I'm gonna have trouble with an "aztec" for this ship.  my in program textures are not worthy, and spending 5-6 hours on ONE design is really not my thing.

Funny, I didn't know they invented the term "Firefox". Fire-Fox should be fine, I would assume.

They didn't. I suppose they're going to sue Craig Thomas (author of the novel "Firefox" about stealing an advanced Soviet jet, written in 1977) or Clint Eastwood (who starred in and directed the movie based on the novel, released in 1982) as well, even though clearly the name has been in use well before Mozilla even existed? Or how about "Thunderbird", the name they use for their E-mail client? Are they gonna sue Ford Motors now?

Right, that's enough ranting. :)

giants do not sue giants, they just grumble and threaten to send out the lawyers.  now, if it was a private person, THEN they'd sue for copyright infringement.  and anybody that isn't a corporation is a "private person".  besides, I think ford said sayonara to the thunderbird nameplate for the most part after the revival disaster in the early 2000's

looks like I got a LOT of work ahead of me :P

Vladko:  If I'm gonna be colouring these variants as well, we'll need to talk.

I'm still working with the colour theme I established with the nacelles, so I hope nothing clashes TOO badly.

looks like I forgot a major piece of the firefox model.  i'd forgotten to unwrap the actuall nacelle pylons.  that's been rectified.  the ship is proceeding slowly, but I've created a solution for the windows.  now I think I shoved too many in :P

well our team has been working, and while you see the standard fire fox, now is the time for what it will look like
hotlink is  standard

Attached are variants1 and 2, we are working on a Springfield type pod

Will the ship(s) be given a complete texture overhaul? P81 easy-bake oven textures are not much to look at these days.

We will try to, but we might realese a 0.9 with standard textures, because, we have other tings to do atm.

he's got a point.  I could tell they were knox textures by the glow overlay on the nacelles.  that was the most annoying thing in the world too edit out!  looks like you'll have to leave the ones I was working on as an NX type.

Post by: Darkthunder on December 08, 2009, 10:06:57 AM
Actually, what makes the textures "obvious" P81/RickKnox, is the easy-bake oven type textures... i.e fake bumpmapping / overly bumped etc.

and a pain to clean up for alternate forms!

I'm not sure I can make aztecs, as I have no Idea what to make for aztecs at all.  I have to change the reg to NX on firefox.

reregistry noted...and I think, if you guys haven't done so allready, I think the class needs a developer badge for the series.

They will be released under M.O.S. Shipyards, and you will get proper credits.

I need an opinion on this one.  I was a bit overzealous with the windows, and I think I need to rescale them (this is why i work plain, it's easier to fix your mistakes)

yeah you should leave only one row around the bridge area and keep inner part without windows, there's too much of them ATM.

I agree with bones on this
Title: Re: Deadthunder's Firefox class.

should I also reduce the scale?

also, I'm gonna do all the registry plates for you.  let me know if the standard NCC versions are going to be differently colored than the NX.  that'll make it easier for you.

Vladko:  what was the font you used for the Proxima refits?  I want to use it on the Hermes/Mercury

I don't think they're off scale as this is supposedly Nebula saucer which is smaller than Galaxys saucer so it's good I think

The font used in Proxima Refit is with Gill Sans MT if I remmember right. Sorry for the slow response. King If you like, I will send you the 1024x1024 textures for the ship worked by me.

nah, I just needed the name of the font.  I can find it easily with searches.

that also reminded me, when these are finished, what texture sizes do you want for the NX?

I sent the textures to your mail. I hope you like them. And whose NX?

the textures I'm working on are going to be solely applied to the NX of the firesteel.

all the textures but the saucer pieces are complete, and they're gonna be the challenge, due to trying to line up the Phaser Strips.  I've managed to slip a shuttle door on the back of the pylon, but I've also applied one on the back of the main hull strip as well, just in case.

I've been testing the pod and pylon textures on the stock nebula, and, since they don't fit, I'm assuming both were scaled down.

could someone please tell me how to set up the nif to view the textures I'm working on, and if any of the programs will let you view the alpha channel glows.
