Post by: Nebula on December 20, 2009, 11:10:14 PM
Anyone here see its new layout? thoughts? I don't know... it's cool but also annoying at the same time lol (I guess I got to get used to it all over again lol)

Well at least the polls work now!! lol

layout's great.  I like that links get highlighted, but it's all just pointless if voting and login etc don't get fixed.

I like the old layout.

Yeah, I like it but it might take some time to get used to the layout.
For me the voting works in polls but not PODT.
Search suggestions don't work but regular search does.

I swear that it's one of the older Filefront builds... Might just be me with Deja Vu but there is something strongly familiar about the layout.

I don't know, The new PotD Position is strange, even though it fits with the PotM on the other site on most FFsites. What i find pretty much anerving(sp?) is that new Advertisement Position directly below the "Latest Files" heading.
Title: Re: BCFiles - new layout
Post by: Nebula on December 21, 2009, 07:58:39 AM
what advertisement? :P
Title: Re: BCFiles - new layout
Post by: Dalek on December 21, 2009, 10:17:38 AM
The new layout creeped me out. The text looks a bit too big and I don't like the fact PotD has been relegated to the sidelines. Also the links to all the different menus of ships and stuff, again, text too big, me no likey.

I preferred the old layout (at the minute). :(

Do not like it. Why are they spending time on layouts when half of the site functions do not work?
Title: Re: BCFiles - new layout
Post by: JimmyB76 on December 21, 2009, 06:58:21 PM
i am very much more used to the oldschool layout, as it had been for years...
also it would be nice if the links to BCS and Excalibur (and their sub-links) were to be put back on on the left (under "The Community"), as well as the links that were on the right (like to the KM site and others)...

edit - ok i see one link to BCS, and one to Excalibur on the bottom of the page...  they were better towards the top on the left IMO as well as their sub-links, under BCC and its sub-links...

i dunno, i think the top 25 downloads and the "all downloads" would be better if they switched spots lol
and altho i rarely check the FF forums, it was easier to see anything new at the top of the page, instead of having to scroll down...

i think the old layout was better...

i do think it is kinda neat seeing the joined date tho, next to posts...
here i thought i joined the BC Community in Spring of 2003, but apparently i go back September 18th, 2002 lol

perhaps people should also post their feelings here at BCfiles itself (http://bridgecommander.filefront.com/poll/)...

(i've renamed the thread and added a poll here to match the one at BCFiles...)

Not Bad, but accepting 'Change' can be Difficult...

Previous layout had a more overview.
But that's my opinion.

Filefront should be focusing on fixing the site functions first then move onto the new layout. I'd love to be able to vote in the polls and rate the POTD's some time before I die...

I know this has been mentioned earlier in the thread but search does not work for me. I wouldn't mind a search that doesn't require fiddling around with IE just to make it work.

Nah, I really don't like this new layout.

:mad 'Someone fix that damn elevator' :funny I couldn't resist lol, so let's sum it up, voting and rating is still down, most download links don't work at first... they work for the second time at least :roll, search function is broken (error 500) some other minor issues observed during loading mods pages (error 404), from time to time comments don't work for me as BCF claimes that i'm banned and my nick is something alot different than what I have  :wtf but what the hell ! now I couldn't even find PotD  :funny

PotD has been relegeated to the sidelines. Literally. :P

what a stupid idea :( I'm used to have most important things on the top of the site (old BCF layout) and now we have a bunch of submenus and other trash ...

Mhmm. Submenus and "other trash" should stay where they are. Subs. :P

nah I lol :funny... I meant that we got some stupid bars and download sections at the central spot where top 25 files, FotW and PotD were before.

I think the option "I Don't Care, As long as the Filefront is being repaired..." should be removed.
Because it is not being repaired.

Indeed. It's being destroyed.

I must say. I love how relevant the old site layouts poll is (on the archive thing)

What is your biggest issue with BCfiles?
Slow Files Posting
Cluttered file catagories or confusing catagories
Poor Moderating of comments
Issues with staff (explain)
POTD
All of the above
No problems

Search is not working, Polling and voting still not working

and they broke user submit in the process

Ok, more gripes:
1. Not all of the new files are showing on the BC Files' Latest Files on the home page yet they are showing on the sidebar? Good examples are:

Showing on front page
DJ Enterprise G
DJ Athena
WC TWOK Pack
WC Phaser 2 Enterprise

Not showing on front page
DJ Holland (except for on that...thingy)
WC Excelsior/Centaur Pack
Vladko's Pack
Atraiu and Sharlin

And many more. A lot of these mods are not getting the credit they deserve.

2. The "New" icon that appears next to new files doesn't show up anymore so I can't tell where new ones are and aren't.

3. The poll is a bit dubious. I could easily click "I Don't like the 'Current' format style..." or "I Like the 'Original' format style..." (I chose the latter could sounded less rude).

:mad

Since your last visit we've added:
20 new Files
A -icon will appear next to new content since your last visit.

I'm having trouble with browsers flashing bad to ad pages or filefront's main page, instead.

Yes the new layout sucks, so why don't we all email the admins on this

There's no point. This was a network wide change done without warning. No-one you can email has the ability to change it back.

Ironically enough I'm getting used to the new site. Still hate where PotD is though. I keep looking where it used to be and thinking "That was there yesterday".

I've said it many times, but I think if the sites are going to be changed, they should be completely reconstructed and modernised, rather than simply reshuffled.

That would be cool but only when FF staff would ask what and how they should change so ppl could choose it :) (I know it's almost impossible with all the different tastes)

They did.. they had a news post on it. remarkably, they ignored users and staffing alike, and now Goody is feeling the pressure... At least voting and polls work. the traffic can return to near normal (as it was before last march)

IIRC they were actually supposed to do that but, for some reason they didn't though that was awhile ago(first half 2009?) maybe before the whole ZD leaving us for dead disaster.
