Help with BC performance
« on: July 04, 2017, 01:57:57 PM »
I've been playing Star Trek Online a bit lately. My son who is 6 has become interested in Star Trek after watching me play. I wanted to let him try out Bridge Commander.  I have an i7, 16GB RAM, and an NVIDIA GTX 750 Ti yet the stock game runs slow. I'm talking about 8-10FPS slow which is unplayable. I remember playing BC on my older PC with numerous mods/ships and recreating the assault on DS9 with no slow downs. Any ideas why I'm having issues on a more powerful PC? I've run the game with KM installed too and have tried resolutions from 1024 all the way up to 1080p with the same results.

I take it thats on windows 10? 1 don't install it to any Program files folders, that immediatly messes with it, run the installer and install it to somewhere like C:\Games once installed, run and configure it, and test it in QB, IDK why but that suddenly worked for me when my old install was broken as hell, guess it had some missing reg keys messing with the render engine. im not suure exactly WHY its happening though, could be a number of things.

I have it installed to d:\games since I have a smaller SSD for my OS only. I've also lowered all the graphics settings to minimum with no effect. Yes this is on Windows 10.

what happens when you run it in windowed mode?
Canon is what people argue exists on ships that don't exist.

I've tried a bunch. Running in Windowed mode seems to run fine but it was in 800x600. As soon as I bumped it to 1024 in full-screen it slowed down again. This was just a quick battle with me as a Galaxy against 1 Ferengi Marauder.

Ok so this is odd. I uninstalled BC and KM again. I reinstalled just the stock BC. I had the resolution set to 1280x1024 and was STILL getting low FPS. I downloaded FRAPS and confirmed I was getting 14FPS or lower. I then alt-tabbed to change a setting on FRAPS and when I went back into the game, I was all the sudden getting 60FPS!
