http://www.nu.nl/news/1512373/71/%27Twee_nieuwe_Star_Trek-films_in_de_maak%27.html

It's dutch, i'll translate;P

If the upcoming movie is a succes, there will be 2more movies of the populair series.
Actor Simon Pegg (Scotty) said that on the usa channel " The Sci Fi Channel"  This was in his contract.

Did my best on the translation lol, but I'm tired:P

from the blurb I've heard it sounds like they're using the "alternate universe" thing to get away with this one - if it proves popular at the box office they can then make a sequel based in this alternate universe. That's my take anyway.

Personally I wouldn't even mind that, but 1 film every few years isn't enough - we need a TV series.

Rumour has it a tv-series may be made if the movie is a success.

I hope that rumour is true and they make a new series.

I'll hold my opinion until I finally see this movie. :/

You have been warned that these are spoilers. Scrolling down is your responsibility. I made this a new topic for obvious reasons. We also need spoiler tags :P. This is a copy paste from the bethsoft boards, so ignore any cracks made at regular patrons.

First off, the biggies:

Keep in mind that this may or may not be verified, but it is held in good faith by the source:

Quote
The new Star Trek film will focus much more on Spock than on the crew of the Enterprise. Also, the adventure takes place on a USS Enterprise commanded by Captain Christopher Pike(!), with Pike and crew being helped out by Kirk but not until much later in the film. It's unknown what ship Kirk would be serving on, but he is not yet a captain at that time. There are battles with the Klingons, and we will get to see the maiden voyage of the original Enterprise: NCC-1701. Finally, none of the film takes place at all at Starfleet Academy.

Then:
Quote
- The budget on the film is far below $200MM.

- The film will be rated PG-13.

- The release date was pushed back to summer '09 because Paramount really wants it to be a summer blockbuster.

- The intent was to re-invent the Star Trek franchise, and that is why they went all the way back to start at the beginning.

- The script was written with Leonard Nimoy in mind. Nimoy read the script and liked it. It seems he's so pivotal to the story that they would have had a big problem if he hadn't liked it.

- Yes, the USS Enterprise will be assembled in space, although parts of it will be assembled on Earth.

- Orci revealed that originally Steven Spielberg read the script and talked to J.J. Abrams about directing it during a set visit to the Transformers set. Abrams mentioned it to his wife, who also helped talk him into the final decision to take on the potentially scary project.

- Nimoy was there and said that Star Trek 11 is a gigantic movie. It's the biggest film he's ever worked on and that it will be worth waiting for. He also said that Paramount is losing money on this investment now because they really have a lot of faith in the film as a summer blockbuster.

- He also went on to say that he didn't like the death of Kirk in Star Trek: Generations. He resented it. He then went on to say that it would have been damaging to the story to put Shatner in the film.

And just to piss off Rogue Angel (or Mark in the case of this forum :P)

The story does not just involve time travel. It actually explores alternate timelines, and jumps between them quite a bit.

While from what we've seen so far it seems like they're being very faithful to the original Enterprise design, in an alternate timeline there will be a significantly different version of the NCC-1701. From what I've been told it will be a very kick-ass version - essentially an all-out warship.

Some of the film will also take place in the time of Star Trek: The Next Generation, although I won't say at what point in the film.

Isnt that exactly what I said?

Yeah :P

As for lint's comment, I didn't seen the Pike thing coming. Most of us here have been talking about Trek 90210, which this statement rebukes.

Nothings confirmed unless stated by JJ Abrams, Kurtzman/Orci and/or Paramount. Until then, all of the above is pure speculations, probably started by people who don't want Trek XI to be made.
