It's fairly common practice in the television industry, that you re-negotiate contracts every so often, which generally leads to a higher or lower salary. But in this case, MGM/Sci-Fi (SyFy) decided to go before the contract negotiations, and cancel the show right away. Bring in a younger, cheaper cast for SGU.

Returning to the vid Neb posted...I thought it had an almost BSG quality to it.
"To live on as we have is to leave behind joy, and love, and companionship, because we know it to be transitory, of the moment. We know it will turn to ash. The SGU crew end up on a distant ship somewhere in the far reaches of the galaxy. Cut off the Milky Way gate-network (the one which would lead them home), they must ultimately find another means of getting back.

Basically, the ship they end up on is the very same ship which once flew all around the galaxy seeding the stargates on the various planets, and in some cases even in planetary orbits. Will be interesting to see how they pull it off, but i'm not very happy that they cancelled SG:A to make room for the new show.

So.

They're on a ship in a distant place far away from home trying to get back to their home as fast as possible...

This sounds familiar...

They're certainly...different. If anything they look newer than the current SG gates.

Wow, a dark Gate in a dark room of darkness

Still, the gate itself looks good, kinda Giger-ish to me.

Why is it wonky though? My expectations from this series have gone up and down a lot, but looking at this, they're starting to slip down a little.
Just have to wait and see though.

There's gotta be some good reason. Perhaps the ancients in that corner had bad eyes. But there's no way they'd do it like that without a good reason.

what makes it wonky?

Look at how the Chevrons sit.

look at the two pics... the Chevrons are slightly off... when the two pics were taken the gate was positioned differently.
