I think it's special to the ship and all off world gates dial the normal way.
Canon is what people argue exists on ships that don't exist.

There are no off world DHDs. [Citation needed]  (I can't remember my source, but it was official though)
I know, confusing.

That's what I think, as well.  I don't have any evidence to support this, mind you.  I just think that if the ship is special, it's gate would look special, too (just because that's how it tends to work in showbiz).

That trailer had my first look at the ship from the outside.  Very nice!  And it's called 'Destiny', huh?  Interesting.  I'll bet the new crew gave it that name.

Well, the off ship gate looks exactly the same as the on ship gate.

Yes so do the ones in the SG and SGA galaxies....
BUT... That doesn't mean the gates behave the same.

hmm does anyone know if universe is going to be rooted, SG-1 i stopped watching after season 6, things just got way to out there at that point for me. Earth FTL ships, super weapons ect. I kinda liked SG-1 and Earth as the guys constantly screwing something up, being under armed and unprepared for there threats, then suddenly they became experts over night on such matters. They went from a minor power to a major power in steller relations and somehow still hid the Stargate from everyone else on Earth, somewhat unbelivable if you ask me. So unlike Atlantis and the last few seasons of SG-1 is Universe more tradtional to the original feel of SG-1 from any news you have read. Or is it like Atlantis just gonna be skipped over by me.

You missed a lot and no they weren't experts at everything....
Earth FTL isn't really their FTL... it's reversed engineered from the goa'uld ships.

Now about SGU it has a much darker theme and seems to have because of this a BSG feel to the show.

Earth FTL wasn't even Goa'uld. After awhile, they just gave up and the Asgard gave them hyperspace drive that was good for intergalactic travel.
"To live on as we have is to leave behind joy, and love, and companionship, because we know it to be transitory, of the moment. We know it will turn to ash. Only those whose lives are brief can imagine that love is eternal. You should embrace that remarkable illusion. It may be the greatest gift your race has ever received."

well i tried to watch Atlantis and tried to tune into SG-1 in the later seasons, I just couldnt get into it. My appeal was the fact we where the underdogs and could be conquered any second

Accutally I think the ring stays in place and the ship spins around it giving the illusion the ring is spinning :funny I dunno, I'm going to wait till the show starts before I start picking on what is borrows, takes, or copies. I never got into SGA like I did for SG1 even thought I thought it was a pretty good show. It just kinda felt like the last season or 2 of SG1 during the whole run of SGA

I'd say so, yea.  This series has a lot of potential.

I still can't shake the feeling that this series is a take-off (or more accurately, an adaptation) of BSG.  But it works with the Stargate universe (no pun intended).  The writers did a good job of making it fit with the established canon.

I like that the ship has a different design aesthetic than Atlantis and other ancient ships and bases.  In my opinion, it's much more in-line with the Milky Way stargate than anything else we've seen that's Ancient.  That's something that I think the set and prop designers sort of went  :eek about when the writers decided the Gou'uld weren't the original gate builders.  If you look at Gou'uld props, ships, weapons, and armor, they share the same design aesthetic as the Milky Way stargates, unlike Atlantis, which has only a couple of simliar details plastered on that appear forced and unnatural.

Anyway, I think this show has potential, and I look forward to watching the next few episodes to see where it goes.

I liked it too, but is it me or did the director, art, set design, sound, video, ect ect all work for for BSG before this because this does not feel like Star Gate at all, if feels very much like BSG just by the scene angles, talk, characters, and over all feel. Is it me?

well, I did watch this, and while the pilot was blatant copy of the first episode of SGA ( with the exception of the communication ability with earth almost right away), I'd say that it has potential.. but I'll be damned if they will have more generic human-shaped "aliens". give us xenomorphs, eight legged freaks, but no more of those bloody medieval villages with hapless farmers betraying the team every bloody time.
