Strange Ship design I found
« on: September 15, 2006, 02:25:01 AM »
Okay I found this ship design just looking around sometime ago , I don't remember where it is from but if anyone wants to take a look here you go.

The Southern Cross cruiser.

It seems to be to me a Sovy that has it's main hull and engineering section changed about some to hold more things, the saucer section seems unchanged to me.

Nah...if it had a Deflector ontop, it wouldn't matter, since the whole command deck obscures it.

Still it is somewhat strange to me for some reason , if anyone else has some ideas be sure to say them or if you know where this design came from.

y'know, sometimes kitbashes are nice and sometimes they suck.

I'm sorry to say that i think most of those are in the 'suckie' category.
Saying that, the Dreadnought Clark isn't too bad as it's not just a case of cutting and pasting nacelles, it's got a fairly unusual secondary hull configuration...

Ugh I've said it once and I'll probably say it a million times.

The Sovereign Class is not good for kitbashes it's good on it's own, it's one of those designs that just can't be used or altered to make a new design otherwise it looks like utter crap.

BTW I must say WTF at the Sovereign with Galaxy Nacelles on it that's just plain silly IMHO.

I absolutely love the Sovereign-Class internet "varients" but the artists should've only kitbashed one thoroughly thought-out & useful re-design. Such as:

The Marlin, keep the Galaxy X-type megaphaser(s), remove BOTH of the Galaxy-Class nacelles, & replace the overhead nacelle with the Shadow Cat's overhead mission-specific pod.

Or, the Nimitz should've been given the shadow cat's mission-specific module & the Marlin's megaphaser(s).

Maybe add a few fighters in the Nimitz's image for sense of scale. The pods the Nimitz carries beneath it should've been given their own impulse engines for the purpose of VT/OL, if they're detachable & deployed as their own Starfleet Marine headquarters / munitions locker, etc.

The first one you posted looks a lot like a cross between an Excalibur and a Sovereign... actually it looks pretty cool.

LOL then read the dates...
Canon is what people argue exists on ships that don't exist.
