Some renders of what Aeries has done. He's done a fantastic job with her. Big nacelles, big pylons and a moddeled deflector.

Anyone know how to get the pylons and nacelles to not be so bright?

I think thats the speculars. I always get that when I import a model.

If you're using MAX, in the Materials Editor, select the texture in question and reduce the self illumination to a lower number.

For example, if it's at like 59, set it to 45 or lower.  Whatever is your liking.  This will reduce the amount of brightness the texture has.

Normally, I prefer 0, but then again, I screw around with SFC models most of the time.

The textures don't show up in the material editor since they were imported with the ship. Anyway, what do you think of this? I've made the saucer longer at the front so she's sleeker like the rhode island. Now this doesn't have Aeries' improvements on it since he hasn't sent it me yet. But imagine adding the longer nacelles to this. The first shot is before, the second is after. Of course if you think it's good then more detail would be added to give the illusion of a refit and not just being stretched.

Btw, this is just a rough copy so of course some of the details look wrong. A 5 min job, that's all.

hmm.  I like the new deflector, but bear in mind that changing the shape of the saucer distorts the textures, so stuff like the escape pods and windows look a little off.  overall, looking good.

I don't think a "Rhode Island" front will fit very well on this at all. I do like the other changes you've made though.

I think I gotta agree with Limey on this one... I'd say that unless you're up to a complete retexture on this ship, we should probably stick to minor tweaks... it's gonna be a bit of a job for you already to get the nacelle and pylon textures to look right. :)

I also prefer the original configuration of the saucer.

But after close inspection of the "Rhode Island" pic... the textures really don't look that altered, it still looks pretty darn good.

In any case, good job on this.

Sleek as it is, I'm not sure how well it would flow with the rest of the ship from a topographical perspective... Hell, I'd almost say that we may as well ditch the textures and try, using the existing maps, to texture her all over from scratch and solve all the problems that way. Of course, I can't texture worth the lives of a thousand puppies, and as such have no idea the woes Luke might have regarding that... but nevertheless... idk. Just sayin'...

This is looking good. The bright texture thing "in-game" is a lack of alpha channels/colour thingymabob. Same prob I had unless you're talking about something completely different.

Well this version isn't even saved to my HDD. As I said it was rough. I just wanted to get an idea of the shape. I'll make sure the textures are right if I do it on the final version. I'd also spend much more time making sure it looks right from all angles as well.

My goal is not to try and better the century but to create somthing different. In other words, take the best bits from other ships and put those ideas into this version but of course with different styling.

As for the alpha channels, i don't think it's to do with them on this occasion.

Well then lets see, I am:
Texture Stupid
Script stupid
Getting there with POTD

But I can tell that she is going to look great. When I get the completed Arcadia, I'd very much like to have this and take pictures of them together. :D

Well it's my 1000th post :D yay. I did want to show you her with all the moddeling finished for my 1000th (that's why i've not been on lol) buf unfortunatly all the work Aeries done won't show up when I render her. It all comes up blank (i.e. the deflector and armour generators). But i've paid more attention to the underneath of the saucer so it looks sleek. The top needs work still since it doesn't look right and I need to make the nacelles darker. Instead of taking inspiration from the Rhode Island, this time i've took some from the Intrepid since Voyager is like the perfect looking ship.

So not that huge of an update sorry, but it's still progress. Also it's strange that this was meant to be a simple retexture and it's turned into this and it's not even half done. Shows what a few suggestions in a wip can do.

If you ask me I would leave the sleek saucer shape (rhode island) and remove all the black armor things or replace them with something like dark grey with similiar patterns to Captain Russel's War Sovereign, or it would be even cooler to put honey comb pattern on those black armors (remember that guy armor suit in cry$hit or crysis ;)  ) and fill it with something like carbon fiber texture, it would look ice cool rly.

The black is actually carbon fibre, but it's a bit small. I'll make the texture larger so it shows better. Is there anyway to make a honeycombe effect easily?

there are plenty of template textures on net just google them ;) and to fit them around the saucer use polar coordinates filter on it but do it on at least 4000x4000 texture then after you apply polar coordinates to it cut of about 1/2 of the texture from inside of it (you'll avoid hugely streched effect on the outer rim) then your new texture will be about the size of 2048x2048 and then you can apply it on those areas ;)
