The Bozeman, huh? Hmm. I hadn't considered doing anything remotely Trek, but perhaps I'll do something like the Bozeman in the distant future. For now, the mithra and this are taking up a lot of my time.

I would say stay away from Trek, it leaves you more creative license and places to expand.

That's the idea behind this, yeah. Kinda got tired of the constraints of keeping things within the 'technological limits'.

nice turret you got there Aeries lol

And I love the idea of making something like a SoaSE capital ship.
Even more if it is for BC  :D I would love to make some fleet battles with those Kol Battleships and others from SoaSE

Quick question. I know one of the stargate pack ships is around 200k... what's the exact poly count and by how much does it impact performance? Also, what systems in particular is it impacting? I need details... depending on what goes on, this may or may not make it into BC when I have more done.

Well, as you said, one of the SG ships is 210,000 polys, and that was running without any lag on a 128mb graphics card with 1gb of RAM and a single core processor. So, I would say go nuts and see if it works :D

210,000 polys? That can't be right, can it? What's this thing about people trying to keep ships under 25k?

It is right. I have no idea why people insist ships need to be kept below 25k or so. All I know is that they're talking crap :) It's the textures that do more to impair performance than the model.

Having said that, Dave said the following in his SG pack thread:

There were a few problems to overcome because of the level of detail, but as long as everything's done right I think BC is capable of supporting models of any poly count.

So it's not quite as "plug ang play" as lower poly ships, but I think it's worth it for the sheer level of detail you get!

Well in that case, lets make the Avenger high poly :D

well I guess it's some kind of idealism, a border that is high detail, adn well detailed enough for BC.

Hm. Interesting. Thanks, I'll take this into account. This might wind up being over 300k, though, given that the turrets themselves are not only incomplete as of yet, but already sit at about 13k each. I've started work on the main hull of the ship... ehhh... not so pleased. likely I'll be scrapping and re-building this a lot as well. xD

Thankfully, I actually found a backup file today! On that note... PIC FOR YOU!

There's some smoothing issues in there, but I'm still happy. :3

Edit: Uploaded better pic.
Edit2: Also please note that this is merely a portion of the bow.
Edit3: Two more pics loaded.

Lol.

Made a tiny bit of progress... I must have forgotten to save at some point or another... lost a little bit of work... oh well. Here's what I've done tonight. Resized the turrets to make the ship seem much larger, and added poddy things... very early in dev, but still.
