Aeries' Various CGI projects - Mithra bridge updated jul.30th
« on: August 26, 2008, 03:07:13 PM »
Yo guys. I've always said that I want to do things far more detailed than BC can supposedly handle. Today, I started on this project. What I have so far is merely the tiniest sample of the ship I'll be building. This is one of her many turrets, yet incomplete. Just wanted to show this off. :)

I haven't decided yet... probably not. I'm leaning towards SOASE [sins of a solar empire] style capital ship, mixed with a bit of battlestar galactica...

impressive.
although, I feel the barrel too thin for such a big mounting.
but the shape is nice.
will you equip this in a sort of battlecruiser?

Yeah, something akin to a battlestar, I think.

Something vaguely TEC?

Yeah, similar to this capital ship:

But with a bit more of a battlestar feel.

Edit: To balance out the size of the mount, I've enlarged the barrels as much as I could and added a second pair below. I think it's worked out nicely, and has a mean sort of effect. For future reference, the barrels are long and thin because of their projectiles; these are long-range, anti-capital-ship rail guns, for lack of a less-long-winded title. This ship, whatever she winds up looking like, will likely be a vessel particularly targeted to engaging enemy capital ships and making short work of them.

Here's a pic of the mods I've made to the turret:

very nice..  good attention to detail, i think your letting your mesh dictate the panelling somewhat... but its a great start...  cant wait to see the beast behind it  8)

Yeah, I got a little lazy with the armor plating. I was real tired and sick-like. x__x

I work this Saturday, but after school Friday, sunday, and I think monday, [long weekend] I can put some real time into this. I'm having trouble just starting the main body of the ship, though... I have the image in my head and a general idea of what i want from all the pics I've looked at on sci-fi meshes and google, but... I don't have the first clue where to start. :/

but... I don't have the first clue where to start. :/
focus on one part, try to get the shape of it (say, the bridge, or the bow...) and draw a vague outline.
then, try another different part, and start modeling until you join both ends.
the rest is just "add this, cut that, shrink that...." and so on....

Ahhhh, yeah, good idea! Just build one bit, then another, and another, and kinda piece it all together? Sorta? :)

Any chance a low poly version will make it to the Mirtha?
