Actually First Contact takes place shortly before the Dom war because the Season 6 DS9 episode that aired right after First Contact, the one where Sisko was having those visions of that Bajoran city, debuted the new Starfleet uniforms that were in First Contact. Insurrection takes place shortly after the Dominion War after DS9 had ended...as the Enterprise is asked to go to the Goran system because the diplomatic core was busy with Dominion negotiations...and they wanted the Enterprise to 'put out one more brush fire'. That's where I figure that the original captain's yacht was possibly a nonfunctional version..LOL but oh well enough with the offtopic stuff LOL keep up the good work Wiley...

You're right that First Contact takes place at the beginning of the War, (2373) but Insurrection came out while DS9 was still on TV, (Movie came out on 12/11/98, DS9 ended on 06/02/99), so the war was still going.  Memory Alpha has this to say...

"The time placement of Star Trek: Insurrection is highly speculative; it is placed roughly concurrent with DS9: "It's Only a Paper Moon", since Worf is only in the opening scenes of that episode, which spans quite a bit of time, and doesn't appear again until the middle scenes of "Field of Fire" (which takes place over three weeks after "Paper Moon"), thus allowing him the time required to make the security upgrades to the Manzar colony and to join the Enterprise-E crew for Insurrection."

Sorry about the movie debate Wiley lol.  You can have your thread back.  Looking forward to more updates

Wiley, I think it's worth it to add some polygons to the hull around the deflector area.  It's a really nice looking model, but I think it's too pointy around there.

No problem, I'll add that. Meanwhile, I'm mapping my reference images to my mesh (temporary texture that I slightly altered). This temporary texture will help me greatly when it comes to making my own texture from scratch. The texturing, when I get to it, should look a lot like the Enterprise-E posted from the Drexfiles, but will have a little more detail.

Agreed.  I like the bright white finish of the FC model much better than the grey versions from the other two movies.

Which shows in most of your textures.

I prefer it too. Just out of curiosity, Wiley, but as this is a First Contact Enterprise-E, do you have any plans on using MVAM to make the deflector seperable?

I'm with Jimmy on this. Other than reenacting First Contact it would serve no purpose :P

Say, you charge it full of deflector type particles or whatever they're called, and your other weaopons are gone. Fire off the Deflector and blow it up with a short phaser burst or remote detenator. OR if you're really clever, you can order Worf out and he will detach the deflector and the shoot it. :p

Mostly it would be a novelty, just because it did in FC. The function: FUN!! :p

If anything MVAM would be better suited for launching the captain's yacht, but thats Wiley's call.

you can already do this by ejecting the warp core tho lol

If I were to do MVAM for the Sovereign, it would be for John Eaves's unrealized saucer separation.  And according to his sketch, not like that one that's on BC files.

That will require me to rebuild the whole model. Mvaming the captain's yacht sounds more likely to do.

Why not finish that one and make the seperated saucer and drive sections for the MVAM models? Or does MVAM require both sections together?

Maybe I'll make the second models better and there will be a noticeable change. Mvam needs 3 models- whole, saucer, and drive section for it to work. I've already noticed some areas I should rebuild. I'll probably just rebuild the whole ship again.

Ok, this is freaking me out now.  I swear, I must have a Sovereign sense that tingles any time someone starts a new one.  It usually starts with a sudden urge to go finish refurbishing the CG Sov too.  :funny

Looking really good, glad to see those reference pics are circulating, and glad to see you're doing a FC version (so I can make a new Nemesis version later :) )

I don't have much time to develop and test actual mods anymore, but after finding those hi-res renders of the Nemesis model, I got inspired to build a whole new Sov model.  Not going to promise anything though, since I have no idea if I'll have to time for it.

Good luck :)  I'm gonna have to force myself to come back here more often just to see what's up.
