Oh my God!!!  It's you!

Dude, you are a BC god, I always wondered whatever happened to you.

It's awesome that you're working on another Sov.  Can only get better. :D

Pfft, for a god I sure don't put out much content. :P
I don't know if it will ever get finished honestly, I mean, I've been fiddling with my old one for seven years now.

I'm just glad to see other people try to make new ones, there really aren't that many, and people who start them tend not to finish. :(

See WC? You have to help break the curse! :funny

It's because yours was so freaking good!

How can you possibly have only 8 cookies for giving us the best mod in BC history?!?

At this rate it looks like the Sovereign could replace the Constitution as the most modded ship lol.  Which is a good thing IMO since the Sovereign and the Refit Constitution are my two favorite ships of all time.  The CG Sovereign itself is legendary.  If you make it anymore detailed it's going to fly out of the computer and orbit the planet lol.

Heheh, I'm just not around that often to grab the cookies that get thrown around.  :P

And really, as far as original mods go.. I seriously doubt the Sov would ever replace the Connie.  There've been what, a total of maybe 4 or 5 actual complete Sovereign models?  Only ones I remember for certain are P81's, the original CG Sov, and LC's.  Granted I may have missed a few, but the Connie is an old standard that everyone likes to visit. :D

Let's just face it, the Sov is a royal pain in the arse to model, and an incredible challenge.  It's got more crazy layered geometry than most ships, and you pretty much have to build it polygon-by-polygon to get the shape right.  There's kind of a reason I never made any other major ships... once you learn how to build a Sovereign, it kind of means everything else is downhill from there. :funny:

Plus, we're really derailing this thread again.  Let's get back to WC's work, and I'll post stuff about my work somewhere else (when I have something to show besides a few splines).

No problem. Here are the pylons which I got done a few days ago. I'm taking my time with this one. I still have to do the nacelles and I have CG's version side my side so I can see how it was built.

Sorry to continue the off-topicness, but I just have to pay tribute to this luminary...

CG, the very fact that Wiley just posted what he posted is testament to what you did.

You may only have a handful of releases to your name(s), but aside from the SNS Galaxy and your own mod, name one ship from 7 years ago that still sets the standard of accuracy in gaming models.

You crafted a masterpiece. I've never even seen a CGI art model more accurate than yours. The one in the background of the Nemesis DVD menu appears lower poly!

It's not quantity that defines a ModGod, it's quality, and impact on the community.

WC certainly has quantity, and his quality is unsurpassed in the context of today's models.

But you did what you did in the still-formative days of this community. Your name stands among the pillars of BC modding, with others like Scotchy, Nanobyte, Dasher_42, Pneumonic81, Mleo, Viper, and others of their time (those were off the top of my head!)

Anyway, rant over.

WC, She's coming along beautifully. It's hard to judge it without the nacelles, they complete the proportions.

Klingon Academy now works on XP/Vista/Win 7 thanks to one dude's patches, click here for details. I highly recommend it!

The nacelles look difficult to build and I am taking my time with them.

I can't compete with CG's Sovereign, I can only come close.

Though yes, I have a lot of mods, the are not truely perfect. They are good practice. My skills are rapidly improving and I am already leaving my mark on the community.

DJ's a late addition.  Those are all the early pioneers.  I would throw in LC, since he's long since moved forward.

I was thinking about the pillars that were contemporaneous with CG, ie, 7 years ago. The pillars that, in a metaphorical sense, hold up the platform upon which we stand today.

By all means, please compete!

The nacelles can be tricky, I've gone through at least 5 or 6 versions of those myself.  They're actually a lot flatter and wider than they look, and it took me forever to figure out that the front actually DOES get wider from the front to the back of the bussards.

What polycount are you aiming for on this one if I might ask?  I know computers can handle more these days, but I dunno what the current standards are.

I personally see a massive improvement in your work since the first Excelsior pack that you did. Your skills are getting there with that list of greats.

Enough of that, or your head will explode.

By all means, take your time, less mistakes that way.

Love what you have done so far.

Im not sure the polycount is the real problem. you can make a good model with less polys. Its mostly the textures. I remember you adding the high res textures to bcfiles. My recent computer can handle them, so I think its more a problem of the textures if you want to have more ships of one kind ingame.

Partly, but polygons become a problem when damage starts happening.  While high poly models work fine most of the time, the damage engine can bog down calculating the damaged mesh when you get hit.
