Discovery-class Request
« on: October 09, 2008, 03:10:04 PM »
I was wondering if there are any modders who could do this madeinjapan1988 model from the Sci-Fi Meshes forums. You need to give the guy credit here.

You can see the profiles here:

all the moders here have their own projects and have no time.
try it yourself ;)
moders usually dont take requests ;)

I90 is right, if you want this ship done you have no choice but to do it yourself.
All hail the messiah!

indeed, that is correct...  very very rarely will a modder will pick up a request (like markyd with the Olympic Class); in the past 5 1/2 years ive been around, ive seen that happen literally less than maybe 10 times at the most...
so ya, as said above, if someone wants a ship ingame the best (and generally only) way is to ask questions about how they can go about accomplishing that; rather than asking if someone else will do it for them...

you also need more than the posted side view. It sorta looks like something I've seen adonis working on...or a modified century class
I just realised something. I've released over 300 fully modded ships for bridge commander. Bow to your master :D

Request Jimmy to add a sticky about asking  requests to the main modding page. :P

in all honesty, ship requests dont occur all that much...  people are free to make requests for things, even if there is like a 99% chance that the thread will quickly fade out...
however, the rare times that a request is answered (like markyd), is a good thing :)
but when a request does occur, it is helpful to see if the person is willing to learn on their own and start asking questions so they can get started...  that is also a rare thing but it does occur sometimes, and that is a good thing also (as someone will develop skills if they want to learn that much, and then we have another new modder :) )...

It's, practically, infinitely more easier and less time consuming to help someone learn while doing, than to do it yourself. ;)
I still can't read peoples minds, nor can I read peoples computers, even worse, I can't combine the two to read what is going wrong with your BC install...

The Discovery-Class is my design.  Rusty contacted me to ask if he could request it here.  If anyone cares to see more of the design, I can post the images here.  The ship is designed to be a combination of the Galaxy-Sovereign-Intrepid classes.  She stands at 1,100m long, 33 decks.  I have a working technical manual, the first 5 decks (working on the 6th and plan to do all) as well as all views (except 3/4ths) done.  I would try to tackle it but I am no 3D modeler, just a lowly vector artist.  If you care to work on her, let me know.  Fantastic work to all of you here.

perhaps if you could show some images of the ship design, someone may or may not be more willing to pick it up. to be honest there isnt anything to go on as it is

Am I the only person who looked through that forum? there's plenty of pics if you look beyond merely page one. Also, I see plenty of ship requests. At least once or twice a month, no? Perhaps I'm losing my mind... in any case, some kind of warning somewhere that modders don't generally take requests...

just a lowly vector artist.

Dude, I can't even do vectors. You're skilled, man. :D

when they occur anyone is free to just let the person, who is making the request, know that is usually the case (that modders are usually backed up with their own projects and as such generally dont take requests) :)

Here you guys go.  All the orthos for you to view.

Below are the finalized images.  I still have a few minor details to add, caution rings around phasers and maybe a few detail markers and such but what you see below is the finalized built of the Discovery in all her glory.  This forum will now turn into my place to put deck plans.  I will post later all the deck plans I've completed so far for your viewing pleasure.

Hope you all enjoy.

BTW: The Screen numbering will be edited to go 1) Port Elevation 2) Starboard Elevation 3) Top View 4) Bottom View 5) Bow View 6) Aft View
